JH:
If the wts had said that, many would never have become Jws to begin with. It was the urgency of the time of the end that was precahed by the wts then that thrilled people into joining the movement. The wts however, truly believed that they knew what they were teaching, and the following was convinced. It seemed so logical at that time.
You spoke well though from the perspective of looking at things in hindsight. Most, if not ALL jws would have done the things that you mentioned had they known at the time that the wts was incorrect.
Jws though, put great value on their wts education and experience throughout their years of association, and in hindsight, if they had the opportunity again to choose between the wts or having the things that they missed, they would have chosen the wts. But they are still a bit angry with the wts because it would have been better to have both the wts and the things that they missed.
However, the wts should not be teaching and enjoining things that they do not know upon trusting members who believe that such food comes from God. The wts has done much good in my opinion but that good does not atone for the harm caused by giving people erroneous expectations. Again, in hindsight, jws today question and doubt the full authority of the wts over their lives. Also, while jws today value wts views and counsel, they will not always accept it.
At one time, the new light explanation of wts previous views was accepted by jws. Now, jws are thinking differently and for the most part keeping those thoughts to themselves. But their actions show that while they are still loyal to the wts cause, they disagree that wts counsel in best for them as an individual.
I do not think that it is a wonderful thing to claim to know and then later on having to retreat. That proves that you didnt know as you claimed you did, and the next time you claim to know, I do not know if I will believe you.
