    Zombie

    Another head hangs lowly,
    Child is slowly taken.
And the violence caused such silence,
    Who are we mistaken?

But you see, it's not me, it's not my family.
In your head, in your head they are fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are crying...

In your head, in your head,
    Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
    In your head,
    Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, dou, dou, dou, dou, dou...

    Another mother's breakin',
    Heart is taking over.
    When the vi'lence causes silence,
    We must be mistaken.

It's the same old theme since nineteen-sixteen.
In your head, in your head they're still fighting,
With their tanks and their bombs,
And their bombs and their guns.
In your head, in your head, they are dying...

In your head, in your head,
    Zombie, zombie, zombie,
Hey, hey, hey. What's in your head,
    In your head,
    Zombie, zombie, zombie?
Hey, hey, hey, hey, oh, oh, oh,
Oh, oh, oh, oh, hey, oh, ya, ya-a...

I particularly like the religious undertones...

    Sunday, Bloody Sunday - U2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFM7Ty1EEvs (WARNING - this video contains original footage clips)

I can't believe the news today
Oh, I can't close my eyes and make it go away!

    How long?
How long must we sing this song?
    How long?
    How long?

'Cause tonight...we can be as one
    Tonight..

    Broken bottles under children's feet
Bodies strewn across the dead-end streets
But I won't heed the battle call
It puts my back up, puts back up against the wall!

    Sunday, bloody sunday
    Sunday, bloody sunday
Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday, bloody sunday)
    All right lets go!

    And the battles just begun
Theres many lost but tell me who has won
The trenches dug within our hearts
And mothers, children, brothers, sisters torn apart!

    Sunday, bloody sunday
    Sunday, bloody sunday

How long...how long must we sing this song?
    How long?
    How long?

'Cause tonight...we can be as one
    Tonight
    Tonight (sunday, bloody sunday)
    Tonight
    Tonight (sunday, bloody sunday)
    Tonight
    Come get some!

Wipe the tears from your eyes
    Wipe your tears away
    Wipe your tears away
I wipe your tears away (sunday, bloody sunday)
I wipe your blood shot eyes (sunday, bloody sunday)

Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday, bloody sunday)
Sunday, bloody sunday (sunday, bloody sunday)
    Here I come!

And it's true we are immune
When fact is fiction and tv reality
    And today the millions cry
We eat and drink while tomorrow they die!

The real battle yet began (sunday, bloody sunday)
To claim the victory jesus won (sunday, bloody sunday
    On..

    Sunday, bloody sunday
    Sunday, bloody sunday..

I am familiar with some of the songs mentioned and have been viewing/listening to links for some of the others. Many of them are very emotionally moving and mentally awakening and action inspiring...or so I hope.

I like this thread and all the contributions to it! But it is not enough to sit and weep or shake our heads or congratulate ourselves on our shared empathy...is it? Most of the time I just feel weak and lost, wondering what I can do, and then when I get tired of feeling that way, I start looking for ways to help change things for the better, generally by supporting those who are actually doing something, through political action, charity work, education, unembedded journalism, stuff like that. Not sure what else to do...any ideas?

Here's an Iraqi protest song that always gives me chills: Baghdad

and from Marine Corps Iraq War Veteran Josh Hisle: Purple Hearts

a Native American protest song: Heart of the Eagle

Thank you for your contributions, some very good pieces linked on this thread and a walk down Memory Lane for some of the music. Jesse Colin-Young wrote "What's Going On", but I must say Marvin Gaye made it his piece.

Here is one from Tim Buckley, a gentle and beautiful song written by Fred Neil, "Dolphins":

Of course, if you do not like Fred Neil's 'Dolphins", you can always listen to Avril Lavigne's "Dolphins"....lol. I think she borrowed Paris Hilton's brain cell that day.

How do people get away with publishing this embarrassing rubbish?

    Dolphins Are u
    Dolphins Are Me
Dolphins Are everyone that includes you and me
They love swimmming with people like you and me
    Dolphins live in the ocean
    Dolphins live in the sea
Dolphins live in nice clear blue sea
They are accompanied by a lot of sea animals
    We love them
    you love them
    I love them
    who dosen't like them
    give me a D
    give me a O
    give me a L
    give me a P
    give me a H
    give me a I
    give me a N
then put it all together & what does it spell

    Merry,

Thank you for the "Baghdad" contribution. It is indeed haunting both musically and in content.

I agree, Merry, the Baghdad song and video were quite revealing of another side to the conflict.

    You asked too

Not sure what else to do...any ideas?

    Here's another video/protest song - Lighthouse Family singing Free/One http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JU8XPguCCik&feature=related

I selected this youtube posting especially because of the video which accompanies it. It gives the message that as long as an individual is doing something, they're doing their part no matter how insignificant it seems. Something us folks here can take encouragement from too in the fight to expose the Watchtower's lies.
