It is no longer on the main page of the Authorised Site of the Office of Public Information of Jehovah's Witnesses. They moved it here: http://www.jw-media.org/newsroom/index.htm I wonder if this partially a result of the criticism from JWD. Their response is noteworthy because they openly admit that they did settle with abuse victims (despite the outrageous spin they put on the issue). This is good for sharing with those who are scared of "apostate" sites or "Satanic lies" in the media. I have some other thoughts about that site: It seems that this site may be a necessary evil for the JW's. They have to discuss things that they don't want to admit to their members, like the pedophilia scandal. It may be a vulnerable target in the battle to inform the public about the real truth about the "truth". There is a great thread about the Gail Bethea-Jackson video and how they took her comments out of context: http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/11/148574/1.ashx This could be big. I started another thread about another questionable pedophile video on that site. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/148771/1.ashx That site usually comes up around fourth or fifth when I do a Google search. I started another thread a while back that discusses how we may be able to negatively affect their search results through our linking practices (from blogs, websites, etc.) http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/6/146739/1.ashx It may not seem like a big deal, but if we got another "apostate" site or two to get listed above them it could make a huge difference when the media are doing research on JW scandals. Even discussing these issues at JWD can provide search engine results for those who are checking up on the WTS. (For example, if they want to find out if Gail Bethea-Jackson is really a doctor or approves of the way she was quoted by the WTS.) Does anybody else have any ideas?

That whole jw-media site is a public relations / spinmeister "news" site.
I think their response to NBC news, now that it's 3 weeks old, was moved from the site's front page as a normal process. They still have it in the 'current news' index so that people can read their spin.
An idea for bringing JW news stories to the front is to post them on citizen journalist news sites like http://www.huliq.com. Right now, if you visit the Google News search site (http://news.google.com/) and type "Jehovah" into the search box, the very first story is about how deceptive the WTS was in its response to the NBC news report. This story was submitted by the e-watchman guy (Robert King), and it's quite good.

I think they are trying to return to business as usual as quickly as possible. That means getting the members to forget it quickly. Of course, they are going to have to make some defense because householders are not going to forget after the Catholic church had the problem in the news for so long.

I wish they would hurry up, and try a new batch of those elders. You know they have a long list of them. I know they are cherry picking them right now, but I know there has to be some more really good ones. Too bad this is just civil court,
I would really like to see some jail time for some elders and more importantly GB members, and then their policies may have a chance of changing.

It is true that these things happen. There isn't a religion where it doesn't. What is the point of attacking (publishing media) only JW's when the catholic religion that has done for centuries? Only a blind can't see that this type of journalism is only to stain the name of God. Parents should warn their children about sexual abuse and other matters, even if it comes from inside the family, that I do with my children, but to mention only JW's cases in this matter, I believe it is unfare. Why is it that I never find an article that says: "Catholic priest raped three children" or somehting like, "Baptists sexually involved with a minor." I hope you all see my point, the religion of these people who have done worst is never mentioned. It is only the JW's who are attacked and not other religions. Now, not every JW's is a pedophile, very few cases have happen, but I can speak for all the JW's that I know and put my life in the steak for must of them because I know they are good people. And about those ""advices"" of hidding you children when a JW's is knocking on your door, that is like saying that you will get AIDS just by talking to an HIV+. Uh...because this is an EX JW site. Of course we all know there are pedophiles in every religion, all over the world. We could talk about that all day and night. But, seeing as this is a site for people who were or are JWS, it's what WE have experienced and know of. And I disagree that it's a rare thing. If you read posts from people here....MANY know firsthand of abuse, or know someone who has been abused. I do! Statistically, that shows it's not rare.
