Is causing quite a bit of stir on other boards (non-JW) with his investigation into 6 Televangelist ministries. It seems like the majority of people, both christian and not are behind him in some fashion. There is a minority against it, and it is a vocal minority. This could get very interesting.

And the really funny and ironic part about it is that the opposition is not coming from conservative, fundamentalist christians, but the radical left, the so called bleeding heart liberals. Man you gotta love this.

On a side note, I've liked Sen Grassley ever since he gave Anita Hill pure hell back in 1991 during the confirmation hearings for Clarence Thomas.

I hope he gives those televangelists the same. A Rolls-Royce indeed!

I do too. If Senator Grassley is able to accomplish this feat without ticking off the conservative voters, and if he is able to this within the bounds of the constitution, then folks we may very well have a way to penetrate that wall of separation that is protecting the Watchtower. This may be our best chance to come along in quite a while.

Exactly. Everyone should be held accountable; we are our brother's keeper after all.

Especially everyone that takes tax exemptions. We are not above the law and neither should they be,

When I first read about this, I was excited because I thought that this could put the Watchtower in jeopardy, but then I got to thinking that the church going christians would be up in arms about this and consider it a witch hunt, and that Senator Grassley would drop this out of fear of offending the religious right wing.

For the past 2 days I have been reading topics on conservative christian boards and what I found amazes me, the main thing I have found is that most conservative christians on those boards support Sen.Grassley, despite the fact that those ministries espouse a similar belief system as them.

It seems like too, that the majority of those posters, incuding pastors and religious leaders too, fully expect the churches to be open and honest in their dealings and that the church is not entitled any "untouchable status".

It seems that these posters have been able to separate the doctrinal from the financial, and they are for the most part supporting Sen.Grassley's efforts.

Im totally floored by this all because the impression I have received over the years is that these churches and ministries are only out for the money and care little about principle.

Furthermore the majority of these posters have no problem whatsoever requiring that their own church's books be opened up to the public, especially their own members.

Also there is a growing sentiment (among church goers themselves) that churches should not only forego the 501 (c)3 exemption, but that they too should also pay taxes like any other business.

These conservative christians, that are so highly courted by the aspiring politicians see no problem in the church being taxed and they also are now starting to view the 501 (c)3 exemption as a governement subsidized gag order.

Folks, this is very big news. This is some of the biggest news to come around in ages.

If Senator Grassley is successful and can pull this off without upsetting the Christian community, Then the churches will have to show accountability to the people they serve--something the Watchtower Society would totally have fits over.

Im following this story closely and will report back any significant findings.

Come on everyone, where are all the responses to this? Is everyone apathetic to this? This could be a major church and state issue, and the results of this could lead to revisions in tax laws and make the churches accountable to the people they serve.

Does anyone else have an opinion one way or the other?

I'm watching it out of the corner of my eye, don't want to get too excited and hopeful, but it is pretty cool. I love detachedly watching fluctuations and permutations and musing about where they can lead.
