"Does every JW have to do a talk? "- You're not forced to but you are 'encouraged' to join the Ministry School and begin by giving a 5 minute Bible reading assignment with maybe a couple of comments.
"Reminds me of speech class where you have to give an oral presntation or you fail the class. Is this kind of the same thing?"- Not really, but you are considered spiritually weak if you don't do it.
" What if you refuse to do your assigned talk or do not want to do the topic that they give you, are you able to do something else or nothing at all?" - Nope. You do the assignment you're given or nothing at all.Generally a man gives the 5 min Bible reading. Two women then have a 5 min discussion on an assigned topic and then a more accomplished man gives a 5 min talk on a Bible topic.
"What if you are shy, and cannot give public talks."- Only long term Ministerial Servants and Elders are given a Public Talk assignment on Sundays which take 45 mins or less now.
" I know I would fail at that, but I guess they teach you to over come that. Well I was supposed to overcome my fear of public speaking in HS when I took speech class, to this day, for the life of me I cannot talk in large crowds. "- No, they don't teach you overcome self consciousness. They tell you you're thinking too much of yourself.
However, many do become competent public speakers albeit with a certain 'religiousy' style.

I'm still a little fuzzy on jw's and their own brand of confession. It seems to me that jw's are supposed to go and confess to their elders any and all infractions, right? How is it different than the Catholics then? besides the dress and no little box to go into to? The priest tells you to say so many hail mary's (or ?) and the elder tells you he will discuss it with the other elders if necessary and make you sit in the back for 6 months to a year if not dfing you outright. How can jw's seriously look at it any different (only more harsh) than what Catholics do? And Catholics are worried about their own sins not those of their family members and gestapo techniques.

What gets said in the confessional doesn't get beyond the confessional. Can the same be said of the dubs?
