Horrible. I think a difference is that scientologist do these things to each other but in jw's, jw's learn to do these things to themselves. I remember a couple years ago there were 4 suicides in about a 3 month period. There are stories of sisters who pioneer so much they no longer take care of themselves and eat little and look terrible by familly accounts. Some jw's turn over their estates. What about the kids who are found to be cutters? no psychologist for them in jw's either, elders just tell them to pray more and more fs. Kids who are kidnapped and told their parent doesn't want them anymore or are dead. The horror stories in dubland are just as horrific and if you look at the population ratio compared to scientologist I think there may be even more horror stories. The two cults are both dangerous and deadly. Scientology will continue to grow because of the vast amounts of money they have from the Hollywood crowd and from regular people who spend their money on self improvement the scientology way. I haven't watched a Tom Cruise film for years because I do not want to support Scientology. Will it matter to him? Not likely, but like many things in life we can choose to make small little differences and stand for what we believe with our pocket books. Much like many Vets will not watch Hanoi Jane Fonda, won't make a lick of difference in her success but on principle they will not watch her and contribute to her wealth.

I wonder what the initial 'draw' is to this odd religious cult. The doctrines are odd beyond belief, don't even resemble anything that western, eastern or any other major groups teach, as far as I can tell. I know that Hubbard produced a lot of books on 'Dianetics' that likely were vehicles to bondage for many of them. This cult seems to be growing on the strength of Cruise, Hollywood et al.
May those who promote such travesty get the reward they deserve in the end.

I have to say I predict that the Witlesses are going to end up at least as bad if they don't stop cracking down on everything that resembles normal life. While they don't ban psychiatric drugs (yet), they do things that make a lot of people depend on them. With all the changes they have had within the past few years, I am seeing the same sort of things happening there.
For instance, the leaving of all material resources to the Watchtower Society. That seems to be getting more blatant within the past few years, and the Kool-Aid Puketowers might expound more on that issue in the next few months. They already insist on people giving all their time to the Watchtower Society in the form of field circus, and they expect people to obey the ever-changing rules.
None of the cults are any good. That is why I recommend doing the research before joining any religion. Any religion with a lot of negative comments that do not rely on circular arguments and specious logic is a warning. The same goes for those "secret societies": the ones that are good have either lots of good results that are not rehearsed and make sense, very few negative comments from people that have given the program a fair try, or both. One I tried out actually encourages doing the research: all the negative comments and flames were from those who just glanced at it without giving it a fair chance. Do your research. Think independently. Act with fully integrated honesty, and think that way. If you are joining a cult, fully integrated honesty will be discouraged and that will send up a red flag.

In my opinion, there are two religions more dangerous than the Witnesses: Scientology and Islam. Both are totally f**ked. Unfortunately, due to "freedom of religion" that we in the west enjoy, this freedom extends to dangerous cults like Scientology. What I find incredible, is that this stinking cult seems to appeal to so many celebrities......proof that having an abundance of wealth doesn't mean you have an abundance of brains.

Enturbulator 009 does a ton of crazy hilarious (tho not safe for kids) songs about the scientologists.
They are mostly hiphop, but they are honestly good. I actually listen to some of em on CD in the apostatruck from time to time.
