I just finished watching it, its a movie that has a lot of good acting, and I think gives a good portrail, of the effects of programming a child with this religious type of brainwashing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Apostle http://artsandfaith.com/t100/2005/entry.php?film=5

The movie was pretty good. I don't know if I would use the term "brainwashing" as the character played by Robert Duvall is typical of many ignorant type people who have religious convictions. We are all brainwashed in one way or another. Brainwashing starts in early childhood when the governments institute certain teaching programs and practices in the public schools. We are all learning from others and those others teach from the perspective of what they want us to believe.

Fair,:::::: So true it kinda makes you question beliefs and how a person of faith may see things even when dealing with personal emotions as transposed into actions by certain type of pentecostal mythology.

Great acting, great movie. It does show the dangers of mind control and ignorance.

Anti,::: Yeah Duvall sure does draw you in to his characture, makes you feel sorry for the guy, as a victim just as much as the man he killed in his rage,, the acting was just over the top for his ability to portray such a misguided manipulated boy, to a grown older man under the influence of such programming,,, excellent.
