This is a Royal Walnut Moth Caterpillar!!! That's what it turns into...it's called a Hickory Horned Devil Caterpillar at the moment!

Here is a website where you can see it in moth form: http://www.butterfliesandmoths.org/species?l=3334

This is an Imperial Moth (that I just happened to notice) which is a member of the Giant SilkMoths.

I've always thought it was so amazing how caterpillars turn into moths or butterflies.

Scully, I know exactly what you mean, it's fascinating! I don't know why but this year I've seen a lot of the moths. Here's a Tulip Tree Moth that I found on my door one evening when I returned home. Her wing was a little torn and so I took her inside where she decided that my finger could be useful:

I couldn't pry her off and those eggs were stuck on with super glue!!! I think that has to be a once in a lifetime experience!

Wow - they're beautiful, especially that last one! (Wasn't keen on the caterpillar though lol!)

We don't see many coloured moths here - they're usually variations of white/cream/beige/brown - but with different shaped wings than the 'usual'

ninja...I did warn about graphic photos! LOL!

Sad emo...I thought these would be everywhere! China has the Giant SilkMoths that they actually raise for the silk...it's kind of sad what they do to get it though.
