Would You Like To Know What Goes On At Elder's Meetings?

  Have you ever wondered what goes on at an elder's meeting? After a prayer, the Presiding Overseer will state what the purpose of the meeting is. If it's a quarterly meeting, the elders will discuss the spirituality of the congregation, its spirit and any dangerous trends that may be observed. Usually, the elders will review potential ministerial servant and elder qualifications. If someone is "reaching out", the elders will examine the scriptures to see if a man qualifies for a position.

  Also at these meetings, the weak, sick, elderly and certain ones that might need shepherding are considered. Assignments are made to assist those in need.

  Now, there's a lot more that goes on in an elder's meeting. Would you like to submit whatever things you believe occurs at these "spirit directed" meetings???

  How about the poor......do they deserve help ?

  Would the elders suggest that a brother with MANY cleaning contracts share some with some with no work ?

  I bet they discuss which elder has told the biggest lie of the month.

  In my wife's cong the elders even lie to each other, what chance has the truth got?

  Do MS's take part in these meetings, too?

  Are phone calls really considered sheparding as opposed to personally looking someone in the eye at their home?

  Will the elders assist in helping those stuggling to find a job, like go see brother X who has 10 times too many cleaning contracts for his needs and suggest that he shares work with those desperately looking for work but for some reason can't find much or any.

  MS's don't take part in elder's meetings. "Shepherding" can be with phone calls too.

  Imaginary meeting- " Brothers we are here to discuss whether or not brother or sister so and so should have a book study in their home. Uh, their son was caught watching pornographic images on the internet, it's become known the mother is watching soap operas regularly condoning immorality, and last time we could spy through their windows the father was watching Borat, such an immoral movie."

  Recommendation of elders? Move the book study to a 90 year old sisters house , it's less threatening and safer spiritually. A little exaggerated, but not much

  MS's should have their own meetings and leave the elders out....

  I can tell you what doesn't go on: opening the Bible, reading and discussing scriptures.

  There will be a bazillion refences to the "7/15/89 Watchtower says this...", "the Flock book on page 74 says this...", "the 2/15/2002 Letter to the Body of Elders says this..."

  But actually opening and reading the Bible is an extraordinarily rare occurrence. Occasionally the scripture from 1 Timothy or Titus regarding qualifications for elders or MS will be read, then promptly forgotten about as the discussion devolves into "how many hours per month does he average?" "How may hours doess his wife average?" "does he conduct a study with his kids?" "Is he visible enough in the congregation?"
