I am going to be in Reno November 11-14 for a work related conference and will be heading to Vegas afterwards for a couple of days.

I remember there being some posters that are from that area. If you want to meet up for a cold beverage/dinner/coffee let me know.

First time to Nevada so am pretty excited about the trip. Nice thing is that work pays for it!

    lucky, nice perk.

Sounds like you're in for a nice few days (of course then you'll keep wanting to go back). That's a great time to go- I love Vegas in the Winter.

How are you getting from Reno to Vegas? It is quite a distance. I think about 400 miles.

I could probably drive up for lunch or dinner, the 17th, depending on my schedule. I don't need much of an excuse to drive to Vegas, I am only 4 hours away in San Diego, CA.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I will likely be driving from Reno to Vegas. I figured it was about 400 miles. I drive Toronto-Boston 2-3 times per year (10 hrs) so that trip shouldn't be that bad. Also it is all new scenary for me which helps.

Do you have any suggested routes? If there is good stuff to see in between? I don't mind splitting the trip to Vegas between two days.

I really don't think there is an easy way to get from Reno to Vegas. I go to Reno and Vegas quite often. A few years ago we decided to drive from Las Vegas to Reno just to see what was in between. There really isn't much. There is no direct highway between them so you kind of weave from town to town to get there. The towns in between seem pretty poor and broken down. You go through towns like Hawthorne, Tonopah, Goldfied, and Beatty. Not much to see in any of them. If you read up on Ghost Towns before you go you might find some points of interest in some of these towns. If you are interested in flying saucers you can go to Area 51 which is about 50 miles north of Las Vegas. I passed it at night so I really get to look around.

Have you consider driving to Lake Tahoe while you are staying in Reno? Tahoe is a lot of fun. Probably too early to ski in November but there are lot of casinos with great food and good shows and all kinds of outdoor things to do. Virginia City is a fun day trip less an hours drive from Reno if you like old western things.

By the way I'm going to Reno next week. I still haven't decided if I an going to drive or fly because we have to go into San Francisco first to visit relative so I would wind up having to rent a car and from San Francisco to Reno anyway.

I have a Nevada map in my car. I'll look at it tomorrow and see if I can remember the exact route I took for Vegas to Reno.

Since vacation plans fell through, I am still doing this trip. I am flying into Reno on Friday and will be there until next Thursday morning.

What I do and where I go between Thursday and catching a flight home from Vegas on Sunday is wide open. Suggestions are welcome.
