Isaac Vail, author and scientist, corroborates the Biblical account of the Flood in his theory of creation,...

What a joke, Isaac Vail, although a teacher by profession, wasn't a scientist at all. He would have better described as as a pseudo-scientist.

The scientific world even back then took no note of anything Vail wrote. Thus it is interesting that C.T. Russell endorsed fully the Vailian theory of the earth's annular rings in volume six of his Studies in the Scriptures. That should tell one just how discerning Russell was about the material he chose for inclusion in his books.

What I find even more amazing is this article from 1990 that trys to make it seem like they where the best thing on earth at the time.

*** w90 3/15 pp. 13-14 par. 18 ‘The Faithful Slave’ and Its Governing Body ***

18 On arriving to inspect his slaves in 1918, therefore, whom did the Master, Jesus Christ, find giving to his body of attendants their measure of food supplies at the proper time? Well, by then, who had given sincere truth-seekers the correct understanding of the ransom sacrifice, the divine name, the invisibility of Christ’s presence, and the significance of 1914? Who had exposed the falsehood of the Trinity, immortality of the human soul, and hellfire? And who had warned of the dangers of evolution and spiritism? The facts show that it was the group of anointed Christians associated with the publishers of the magazine Zion’s Watch Tower and Herald of Christ’s Presence, now called The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah’s Kingdom.

I found this about the "author", J.G. Smith:

    Smith, J. Gregory, Mrs., 1818-1905

So we know that her husband's name was Gregory J. Smith.

Why were her husband's initials use on the book and not her own? She was the author of the book, not him.

Isn't it interesting that Russell would employ an Egyptian symbol on the WTS publications?

Even more interesting is his own grave marker.

"Holy Angels" is what the society believes is directing Jehovah's work......not demon angels. If this is true, why did Russell honor a book written by a wicked angel?

    The Watchtower. September 1. 1932. p. 263 ***

There cannot be a question or doubt that Jesus Christ can and does direct every division of his organization and that he can and does use his holy angels to carry into operation his orders and direct the course of the remnant on earth, regardless of the fact that the remnant cannot see these agents or ambassadors of the Lord and can have no direct or audible communication with them.

The Jehovah's Witnesses (Bible Students back then) certainly created a bizarre fantasy world for themselves. A deviant view of reality that they believed was the Truth!

Why did they feel they had to believe in such things? Was it an opiate (as Marx says) that they needed in order to deal with reality?

Or were they all just plain nuts?
