For the past 19 days I've been suffering with tooth pain. I had it crowned but it got infected. I was put on pennicilin. The dentist finally drilled a hole in the tooth two days ago and started a root canal that will be finished next week. The pain was at times very difficult to deal with. On top of that I had an alergic reaction to the pennicilin and developed a pretty bad rash. While sitting in the dentists chair waiting my turn there was breaking news, a 15 year old boy was shot to death in a high school in Toronto. My heart goes out to this mother and his family. My pain is so minor. It will go away but this mothers pain will never go away. She will not see him grow up to be a man; she will never experience being a grandparent through him. It really puts things in perspective for me.
Seeing someone else in greater pain than myself puts things in perspective?

Yes, I can hardly imagine hearing such news. I can only have faith that somehow I'd get through it!
All it takes is one super tragedy like that to really realize how petty we have been in our complaints. I think that's one reason why lots of folks come back from near death experiences with renewed appreciation for life.

An attitude of gratitude can help one deal with the harsh realities of life.

So true; you also can be grateful that your infection and your allergic reaction didn't kill you. Tooth pain is one of the worst of physical issues, in my opinion. It can be quite a bit like a broken bone. Sorry you went through that and glad you're doing better! Stay away from those m&m's!

Dear Guest,
Are you doing better today with your pain? Let us know. And you're certainly right about keeping your perspective - that sad news was tragic. We must enjoy each moment we have, even if we need to be numbed, as in your case.
