The Dumb and Dumber Organization

When does the 'dumbth' in this organization hit bottom?

Anybody remember when questions were read aloud before the
    paragraph, during the Watchtower study?

Notice that the Kingdom Ministry now offers word for word
presentations for each issue of the Watchtower and Awake?

Notice how Ministry School talks will be replaced by reading
    aloud?

Ever cringe in horror at someone saying "that Watchtower
    was deep!"

I understand that reading/studying skills have declined
nationally - but that doesn't account for the deepening
self-inflicted stupidity of great numbers of Witnesses.
Don't think it isn't enforced - I recall being counseled
by a C.O. not to add any supplementary material (church father
quotes) even though it fully agreed with Watchtower doctrine.
THEY DON'T WANT PEOPLE THINKING! A complete betrayal of their
    Bible Student origins!

If you feel frustrated by the sick persistence of this stupifying
cult, take heart that at least this internet guerilla war is
having an effect - the magazines are full of NOTHING!

They have no definitive (and falsifiable) prophecy, no hard
chronology, no depth of doctrinal exposition - they can't
even offer a minimal defense of their cherished controversies
like blood or disfellowshipping. Cowering behind their platitudes,
they are afraid to commit anything profound to print.

Like the debilitated gerontocrats that they are, they must rely
on their "caretakers" to protect them from a world they NEVER
foresaw. Let their lawyers and spin doctors cover for their
    leaking errors!

    So be it

What's this about Ministry School talks being replaced by reading aloud? I haven't heard about this development.

Would that apply to all MS talks, including the instruction talk and Bible highlights, or just 2, 3 and 4?

mea culpa on that ministry school point - however, there
are rumors about something like that happening when they
get the new TM student book out - after next year.

As to general thinking ability, it becomes a self-fufilling
trap - they treat publishers like children and they act
like children, which 'justifies' their treatment as children!
Brothers in the Service Dept and elsewhere wonder exceedingly
at the idiotic disasters ordinary Witnesses get themselves
into - but, remember, you didn't teach them to think,
you taught them to AVOID critical thinking. Likewise, with
the current backtracking on attending college - before
the civil war, many plantation owners vigorously opposed
any teaching of slaves - why?

It tends to make seek freedom

Nice comments as usual. The magazines are full of nothing, probably because they realize every time they open their mouth, it comes back to haunt them.

The more I think about it, I'm not sure even what the religion is becoming. It simply seems to exist but with an ever decreasing lack of tangeble beliefs and direction.

    met,

: Anybody remember when questions were read aloud before the
    paragraph, during the Watchtower study?

I do, but it wasn't any more stimulating. The questions were nothing more than the answers in the paragraphs reworded to be a question. The worst moron in the Universe could find the one sentence which "answered" the "question" without working his/her braincells at all.

The paragraphs had five sentences, TOPS! So even the most severe dummy had a 20% chance of getting the question right if he used darts and tossed them at the paragraph.

JWs are braindead idiots, period. And it is their fault that they let themselves get that way.

Redeem your BRAINS, JWs! You CAN do this! I did. So can you.

    Farkel E Neuuman,
I just loved the comments of the ones who answered the questions, word for word, with exactly what the paragraph said. My favorite thing (near the end) was sneaking in a tough question for the WT conductor that 'I had been asked by a householder in service'.
One time this prompted three elders to answer the question in quick succession with smoke and mirrors. I loved seeing them squirm and the looks that I got.
Hey, at least it made a small part of the study interesting, eh?

Anyone remember the 8 scripture sermons in the 50's used from door to door?

Or when the sisters were not given themes but had to pick their own?

Or when the sisters were not even in the school? Had to dumb it down when they added the sisters.

Or when the Watchtower didn't even have questions for the study article? Or when there was no study article?

Or when the WT conductor had so much leeway that sometimes only 4 or 5 paragraphs would be studied because he extemporized (sp?) so much?

Or when full scriptures would be quoted in the WT study articles instead of the snippets out of context that is done today?

Or when there was not an AID book or Insight book to use as references? Had to use Strong's Concordance etc.

If you can remember all those, you are old, old, old...dumbing down has been going on for a long, long time.

My sister always laughed at the term 'question and answer session.' As though there were ever any real opportunity to ask your own question or give your own answer.

The best is how they encourage you to 'answer in your own words.' [8>]

In 2002 or 2003 Talk No.2 (bible reading plus brief application, talk for young or new brothers) will be replaced by a straight bible reading passage. Talk no.4 (talk based on "bible publication" given by brother or sister), however, will be replaced with by simply assigning a topic and allowing the person to use their own material (from the society, of course) to make the talk. Dumbing down one, and making the other better.
