My first exposure to psychology was reading one of Phil Zimbardo's books after seeing his series on a PBS station. You might remember him from the Stanford Prison Experiment.

The above is his new book that I plan on getting.

He also spoke at MIT and the webcast is here:

To view a webcast of the event, click here.

Here is another related site: www.lucifereffect.org

The information is helpful in understanding cults and high control groups.

I haven't read the Lucifer Effect website yet; I was detoured by the Wikipedia entry on him. Found out he's also done a lot of research on shyness and written books about it - so, between trauma and shyness, I figure he's found out a lot of things my daughter needs to know. Thanks, Blondie. Thanks Blondie. That looks worth reading. If I remember correctly, the results of that prison experiment were quite chilling. This could shed a lot of light on current horror stories.

Has anyone body else read this book.

Remember Professor Zimbardo was the one that did the test where half the students were prisoners and half were prisoners and what played out, how good people did "evil" things. Makes you think about the scandal with the prison on Iraq. Something to compare with the Milgram experiment.

I guess I'm at the center of it all. Across the street from my house is the school where the "Third Wave" experiment happened (we had a thread on this last week), and today I checked into my office in the basement of the building about 30 feet from where Zimbardo did his experiment....
