Last week, and elder phoned me to encourage me to go to the memorial. Since years, it was the older elders who tried to bring me back, now this year, it's an old friend, who happens to be an elder, that phoned me. He didn't phone me in 15 years although he is an elder since 10 years.
I,m sure he didn't just decide out of the blue to phone me. I'm sure that the older elders instructed him to do so.
The BOE will meet and figure out who should get a special invitation. They may ask for a volunteer who the elder may've suggested on his own that he would invite you.
I believe inactive ones are often discussed at elder's meetings.
I'm pretty sure, that if an inactive or newbie goes to the memorial, they have special plans to bring them to another meeting.....
They throw their names in a hat! And say HA HA, to the one who is picked!
As ex-dubs, we often and easily make the mistake of assuming these guys are really organized. In fact, they are no more organized now that they were when you attended meetings and could not belive how inconsistent they were in organizational matters.
What you perceive as harrassment, organized or otherwise, is likely just a random act of "encouragement." This is a works-based religion and every once in a while an elder will do "works" to keep his quota up.
As mimimus said, the elders usually sit down and especially if the Co is going to be around within a week or two either way, they justify who gets a invitation, they try to have volunteers but then start to assign who may be best with that person to invite. I seen it when I was an elder and many times they will do their inviting as shepherds during FS hours, nice way to get some easy time in. Always a loop hole, apparently my name did not appear on their register.
