This sneaky recruitment policy is something that should be made known to the public at large. The Witness visit is a real threat to the Family!

I remember being contacted at high school and the first or second encounter came with a warning that my family members would try to discourage me because they were being used by the devil.

The public should be warned about cults, gangs, and organizations who use sneaky tactics like this to gain membership.

That worked for her until I started going and doing things with my friends WITHOUT HER. I stayed longer and did more things than she did. Twice I left on a week long vacation while she was at a meeting. I went on one vacation and told her, she wasn't invited, it was just for friends. We'd take days long cross country motorcycle touring trips and I belonged to three touring clubs. I had plenty to do without her.

It's a shame you had to get to this point in your marriage due to the dubs gary, but I can't help but be a bit amused at this reminder of how indignant they get when you turn the tables on them in this manner. It's amazing how they can shun you, disrespect you and condem you but the minute you turn around and give them a bit back they whine like freakin babies about being persecuted.

And yes they specialize in the divide and conquer method of conversion.

lol please disregard my colors, I've not had my first cup of coffee and well it was an accident.

This tactic is firmly entrenched quite early in the indoctrination process, usually in the first or second chapter of an initial study publication.

It may be that even close friends or relatives will tell you that they do not like your examining the Scriptures. Jesus Christ himself even warned: "Indeed, a man’s enemies will be persons of his own household. He that has greater affection for father or mother than for me is not worthy of me; and he that has greater affection for son or daughter than for me is not worthy of me." (Matthew 10:36, 37) Relatives may try to discourage you, doing so in all sincerity because they do not know the wonderful truths found in the Bible. But if you give up a study of God’s Word when opposition comes, how will God view you? Also, if you give up, how will those friends and loved ones be helped by you to understand that accurate knowledge of the Bible is of life-or-death importance? Your staying with the things you learn from God’s Word may in time influence them likewise to learn the truth.

peoplemaytrytostopyoufromlearningaboutGod. Even some of your friends and family may do this. (Matthew 10:36, 37) If others laugh at you or threaten you, ask yourself, ‘Whom do I want to please—humans or God?’ Think about this: If someone told you to stop eating, would you obey him? Of course not! You need food to live. But God can make you live forever! So never let anyone stop you from learning how you can be a friend of God.—John 17:3.

    7. Satan may use persecution or opposition to get you to leave Jehovah. Some of your loved ones may become very angry because you are studying the Bible. Others may make fun of you. But to whom do you owe your life? Satan wants to frighten you so that you will stop learning about Jehovah. Do not let Satan win! (Matthew 10:34-39; 1 Peter 5:8, 9) By resisting the Devil, you can make Jehovah happy and show that you uphold His sovereignty.—Proverbs 27:11.

How grateful we can be that Jehovah makes loving spiritual provisions through his Word and organization! Draw close to God’s people. Do not hold back in fear of what friends or relatives may think of you for taking in the knowledge of God. Some may disapprove because you are associating with Jehovah’s Witnesses and attending meetings at the Kingdom Hall. But God will more than compensate for anything you sacrifice for the sake of his worship. (Malachi 3:10) Moreover, Jesus said: "No one has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for my sake and for the sake of the good news who will not get a hundredfold now in this period of time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and fields, with persecutions, and in the coming system of things everlasting life." (Mark 10:29, 30) Yes, no matter what you have left behind or must endure, you can find delightful companionship and spiritual security among God’s people.

Yes, I've seen it first hand. Not myself, as I have a way of wingling the truth out of my hubby. But I saw it with a new recruit at the hall.

Interestingly enough, although meeting with them since the fall, they have not given a warning that family members would try to discourage because they were being used by the devil. This is because we already study the Bible together as a family! But maybe they would start to tell me that my husband was working against God...but we're not going to let them go down that road. They have to take all of us or none!
