"Somehow I got the feeling they figured out their service is how we feel about our service as JW's and then finding out the real truth."

Actually, I think these guys basically went into it with their eyes wide open. They were betrayed, but they were not naive to start with.

If we actually supported our soldiers, this war would probably end much sooner

If Rumsfeld would have taken the advice of General Shinsecki and gone in with 450,000 troops to begin with then this war probably would have ended sooner. We have the most professional, highly trained, qualified, selfless and determined military on this earth. They were sent into Iraq without the proper equipment (armor among other things) and without the proper troop strength. The most pathetic and unpatriotic theme that is beginning to unfold in Washington is that the military is at fault for the present condition.

If Rumsfeld supported our soldiers, this war would probably end much sooner.

This war was supposed to make America safe. We traded one tryant of a ruler, Saddam, for the creation of 100,000 terrorists in Iraq. This was not forseen by our President and his minions. History will not look favorably upon the Bush Presidency.

I thought the war was finished. Must have missed something.

Not looking for an arguement or a political debate, just replying to a previous poster who made the comment that

No one enjoys kicking Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld and their despicable ilk more than me, but please don't miss Kevin Tillman's point:

"In a democracy, the policy of the leaders is the policy of the people. So don’t be shocked when our grandkids bury much of this generation as traitors to the nation, to the world and to humanity. Most likely, they will come to know that “somehow” was nurtured by fear, insecurity and indifference, leaving the country vulnerable to unchecked, unchallenged parasites."

He's talking about you, me, and to some extent I'm sure, himself and his own family. He's right you know, "in a democracy, the policy of the leaders is the policy of the people".

    SixofNine,

I spend a lot of time amongst the military and as part of my job have interviewd a lot of soldiers over the last three years. The soldiers are professional. They will do their job regardless of what anyone says or thinks. That is what I believe Tillman was refering to when he talked about bumber stickers and ribbons. Some of these men and women are on their fourth tour of duty. Regardless of their polical views, they do their job. Not all are Republican and not all are Democrats. They are like you and I except they believe that being a soldier is their duty to country. His message is important. VOTE, that is our duty as Americans. I did this morning already, I hope you do as well.

The situation is not as hopeless as it may at first appear. It is heartening to see a growing number of Republicans admit to the error of the Bush Administration's ways and begin to speak out. It has taken a long, long time for them to note the bleeding obvious, but it is slowly happening. There will always be the diehard loonies who seek the eradication of anything that does not chew tobacco, but these are being increasingly side-lined.

I was pleased to hear the sentiments of an Evangelist close to the White House on the BBC recently on this debate Follow this link. admitting to having a reversal in his previously held views on the invasion of Iraq - he speaks for many.

Imho these are the signs of a nation changing direction. Like a huge ship, turning is a long and laborious process but the nation has begun to move.

Definitely we live in a Democracy, and please go out an vote, we have such a fine group of people to vote for (gag gag gag), I am normally independent but like others believe a vote for the democratic elite here in california is a vote for defeat, crap on the legal citizenery, kiss the ass of the illegals hug the gays etc etc etc. And most of all shit on top of the everday citizen of this state as we don't count and never have here. I hate Bush and his border nonpolicy, I hate us being in Iraq, but hey we have what 3,000 deaths or there abouts, how many people were killed last year by illegals? how many died due to drugs, speeding, illness, in Vietnam 200 plus a week were killed, 3 years and only 3000 thousand is incredible.

Being politically correct in war is a death sentence for our troops, we should be taking down anyone even remotely looking for trouble over there not being worried about their fing head coverings etc.

Well put. One HAS to wonder if we had 500,000 troops there (from the beginning) and HAD secured the boarder would Iraq be the mess that it is now. HAD insurgants seen well-equiped U.S. soldiers in force, would they have been so bold as they have become?

If you want to impeach Bush and Rumdfed for some pie in the sky "oh they did it to enrich their buddies" I think you're barking up the wrong tree. However, if you want to put them on trial for a poorly executed war plan which cost the lives of thousands of soldiers and civilians...hmmm..that would be interesting.

Sad thing is, looks like the master of this mess, Rumsfeld, isn't going anywhere...
