Can shunning or marking extend to the un-baptized?

It totally depends on the context. If this were true, every "born-in" that faded before baptized would be announced and shunned, and I have never observed this happen. In fact, thats my category, born-in, was an "unbaptized" publisher, participated in the school, etc, but was never baptized. I was never shunned, no announcement was ever made and all the JWs I once knew are very pleasant to me when I bump into them. The same can be said of dozens of similar cases involving friends of mine.

Its only an issue if an unbaptized publisher that is actively participating in meetings (e.g. giving talks, going out in FS, etc) is caught committing some DFing offense that an announcement would be made and they very likely would be shunned in a manner similar to a DFd dub. Having said that, in my neck of the woods this is a rare event. For the most part, "unbaptized" pretty much means you fly under the radar in terms of "official" discipline.

Thanks very much for all your feedback. It's been 29 years for me and it looks like things have changed. It hadn't occurred to me about the unbaptized publisher status. That won't be a problem with him since he has no intention of going that far.
