French president says report of bin Laden death 'in no way whatsoever confirmed'
PARIS (AP) - President Jacques Chirac says a report that Osama bin Laden may be dead is "in no way whatsoever confirmed."
A French newspaper has printed what it says is a copy of a confidential document from the French foreign intelligence service DGSE. It cites an uncorroborated report from Saudi secret services that the leader of the al-Qaida terror network died of typhoid last month in Pakistan.
A CIA duty officer in Washington also could not confirm the report.
Chirac says he was "a bit surprised" at the leak and has asked his defense minister to see how a document from a French foreign intelligence service was published in the French press.Photo Copyright 2006, Reuters
