If you were a JW as a kid how did you and the other youths treat the kids of those that were fading or inactive?

I remember one remembrance day all the JW kids were in the library while the assembly was on and the kid of fader parents was there and I was asking the other kids in front of him what is HE doing here implying he had no right to be around us. Then we started pressuring him to come to meetings even if his parents weren't and he kept making excuses saying he didn't have a suit that fit..etc.

I know other kids with fader parents were sort of sneered at or looked down upon and we used to gossip about all the "bad" worldly things they did.

I never knew what to say to the kid whose parents disassociated. If I ever saw him I'd apologise for many years of being... well you know.

I'm sure you feel bad about picking on him, but in reality, you probably did him a huge favor by showing him that the j-dubs is not a place for him to be.

I always used to wonder what was wrong with the kids who left and feel superior..and now I feel like doh they were smarter than I was.

This is similar to what happened to my daughter. We were/are on the fringes of the cong, not involved in many activities. At get-togethers, the girls would be rude to my daughter and try to get rid of her. She decided by age 8 she didn't want or need JW friends.

At the KH I attended as a kid we didn't treat those whose parents were faders any different than those whose parents were active. In fact we were encouraged to help them. But that was a long time ago. Things have probably changed a lot in the congregation since my departure.
