It is true you can't get a balanced, measured debate on boards like this because the foolish WILL be swarmed. There is just no possible way to control a discussion board like this to give "equal" time to each side. How would you control who gets to respond and who doesn't?
Even so, the quality of the arguments can be checked by the observers, if they care to.
