A couple at the door just offered me (held out a pamphlet within 20 cm of me) "a personal invitation" to "a convention, as are being held around the world".
Of course I declined - and thought, 'what was personal about that?'
They're mass produced, handed to anyone who'll take it, there's no name on it (e.g. mine), they're going door to door - so what's personal about it ?
I am thinking that lying is natural to their speech.
It's part of a world - wide campaign to invite everyone to this years' district conventions. The local one to us was in June, and everyone in the block of flats we live in received one, apart from us.
A Paduan, I don't think I would criticize them too much for saying it was "personal."
Personal in the sense that:
1. It wasn't mailed to you anonymously
2. It wasn't stuck in your door anonymously
I received a wedding invitation today in the mail and I know that everyone else received the same exact invitation.
So in a sense it is more personal than JWs normally do things.
BTW, I don't know about you, but I get mail every day with my name on it from companies that I didn't ask to do business with. So I don't think if they had your name on it that it would improve things, right?
The personal part comes in if they lingered awhile to chat with you and exchange names. If they did, good for them. If not, shame on them.

It was basic, no names, no discussion, but I did have my space invaded by an outstretched hand holding a pamphlet up close to me such that I needed to keep my hands to my side not to accept it - I found that personal - a less informed and more courteous person would most likely have accepted it from their hand. Indeed this angers me.
I'm still waiting for my invitation too.
We haven't had JWs at are house for years must be on the do not call list?
