About two months ago I got in the mail a wedding announcement for my cousin who lives way north of here. She would actually be considered my second cousin, I believe. Her dad is my first cousin. His dad is my uncle who is my mother's brother. His wife, my aunt, died about two years ago almost.

So anyhow, I was trying for the life of me to figure out why I would get that announcement. I figured that they were just being nice and letting me know she is getting married.

Today I got an invitation to the wedding shower.

Now mind you they are all jws. Strong, zealous jws.

Obviously they don't know I da'ed, let alone am just not a jw anymore.

Going along with that, my husband heard from my mom's neighbor that she was out to dinner with my mom and this uncle of mine and as they were in the parking lot, a woman from the kingdom hall came running over to the vehicle to say hello. Whilst they were speaking this woman from the kingdom hall says to my mom: "Tell Meagan I said hello!" So, my mom gets all teary eyed shakes her head and the woman says "You can still talk to her you know." My mom continues to shake her head and is still teary eyed.

What the heck is going on???? This is odd. Quite odd.

I am Not going to this shower, I am Not going to do anything with this invitation other then respectfully decline and send her a gift. And after that...

I can't believe my own family doesn't realize what is going on!

This is really the twilight zone now.

Sounds to me like they are just looking for a gift for the shower and wedding. Why are you sending a gift?

  • confusedjw

A lady or gentleman sends a gift to a family member even if they can't make it.

    I'd do the same Swanny

Thank You cjw! That is exactly why I am doing it. (does this make me a lady? )

But on the other hand, Carla, I had thought the same thing. Because something just doesn't sound right.

Yes, Lady Black Swan, sending a gift would be the classy thing to do. You might even try a phone call to see if the cousin will talk to you or if the cards were just really just bait for a gift.

Aww thanx cjw. Lady, me, a lady. Hehe.

Serendipity, funny you should mention that. I was just thinking that myself.

This cousin that is getting married, you couldn't ask for a sweeter girl. She is very kind, very moral and all in all a good egg.

Hm, I'm thinking I should just do the gift thing and not even bring anything up.

The evil side of me thought I should tell them I'm coming just to see what would happen.

But then the good side won out and thought, nope, can't do it... must be nice.

Looking for a gift or....trying to save you! Right before most of my family left (altough rumored apostate) cong and witnesses from far and wide were writing, phoning and inviting us over they run at the sight of us.. Cause we are obviously children of Satan now About the is nice of you to wanna send one! But, being nice sometimes doesn't mean anything to people (witnesses) and that sucks!

Don't send a gift, just politely delcine the invite.

They are looking for a gift even though you are obviously out. If they met you in the street you would not be acknowledged.

    Do not acknowlege them.

I disagree based on this. Don't play by their rules. We aren't the sort to judge and shun people because we have broken free from the FDS mind control. So if they expect me to play by their rules and make it comfortable for them in a store or elsewhere, that won't happen.

Force them to have to be uncomfortable following the FDS

Be the nice person you are and send the gift - what is that scripure in Proverbs? "A gift at the right time breaks bones" You're kind actions might help the family rethink.
