I know the 1914 was originally something else, and they decided on 1914 AFTER.

Which year did they decide this and how can i prove without using websites to my mum?? books of their own?

The thing is, i have proven about 607 to her and she said "well, they still predicted 1914 which i think is pretty amazing"

This is a great topic to show the dishonesty of the WTS.

First show the Awake! 1973 January 22 p.8
”Of all men used by God to prophesy, Jesus is outstanding. Based on what he said, along with the words of Daniel and John, Jehovah's witnesses pointed to the year 1914, decades in advance, as marking the start of "the conclusion of the system of things."

    Watchtower 1993 September 15 p.9 states;
“Jehovah’s Witnesses have consistently shown from the Scriptures that the year 1914 marked the beginning of this world’s time of the end and that “the day of judgment and of destruction of the ungodly men” has drawn near. “

This are lies. 1914 was supposed to be the final of the many dates of Russell. Nothing Russell said about 1914 has come to pass.

    Watchtower 1894 July 15
“But bear in mind that the end of 1914 is not the date for the beginning, but for the end of the time of trouble.

The Time Is At Hand 1889 1908 ed. p.99
“True, it is expecting great things to claim, as we do, that within the coming twenty-six years all present governments will be overthrown and dissolved …. In view of this strong Bible evidence concerning the Times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God, will be accomplished at the end of A. D. 1914.”

The Time Is At Hand 1889 1915 ed. p.77
“…the great “time of trouble such as never was since there was a nation,” will reach its culmination…”

    Watch Tower 1911 June 15
“October, 1914, will witness the full end of Babylon, “as a great millstone cast into the sea,” utterly destroyed as a system.”

    Thy Kingdom Come 1891 p153
“A.D. 33, to A.D. 70 was 36 ½ years; ans so from A.D. 1878 to the end of A.D. 1914 is 36 ½ years. And, with the end of A.D. 1914, what God calls Babylon, and what men call Christendom, will have passed away, as already shown in prophecy.”

    Watch Tower 1892 January 15
“The date of the close of that “battle” is definitely marked in Scripture as October 1914. It is already in progress, its beginning dating from October, 1874.”

When nothing happened in 1914 the 1915 editions of books said the end would be in 1915 This was due to Russell knowing he had incorrectly used the year 0 in the seven times prophecy

The Time Is At Hand 1915 ed. p.99
“In view of this strong Bible evidence concerning the Times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God, will be accomplished near the end of A.D. 1915.”

Though most of the other wrong dates were reinterpreted by Rutherford in 1931 the present explanation for 1914 was released in a booklet in 1932 entitled What is Truth? Here it stated that “the second coming of Christ dates from the fall of the year 1914” and explains that this was the start of Christs presence.

It wasn’t until 1943 that all Russell’s dates were finally done away with.

    God’s Kingdom of a Thousand Years Has Approached (1973) chap.11 pp.209-210
55 In the year 1943 the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society published the book “The Truth Shall Make You Free.” In its chapter 11, entitled “The Count of Time,” it did away with the insertion of 100 years into the period of the Judges and went according to the oldest and most authentic reading of Acts 13:20, and accepted the spelled-out numbers of the Hebrew Scriptures. This moved forward the end of six thousand years of man’s existence into the decade of the 1970’s. Naturally this did away with the year 1874 C.E. as the date of return of the Lord Jesus Christ and the beginning of his invisible presence or parousia.

These quotes are damning although I worry that many Witlesses have a blindness to anything published more than about 20 years ago. I've heard statements such as "If you want to examine our beliefs you should look at the current literature, not selectively quoting from old literature", "It doesn't matter that we believed all those things, it's what we believe now that matters". Although if one remembers reading at the time these statements in the publications then it is harder to dismiss them as irrelevant.

    your right there stapler.

they need an excuse, so they say light got brighter but yeh, as you said 1914 is important and they have always stuck by it. its a big deal to them, its their way of pinching themselves to see if they are awake, you take that away they see they aint in the real world and then hopefully wake up. its like they've not ever lived their own lives before.

This treatise by Thomas Daniels gives plenty of documentation. It's entitled Jehovah's Witnesses and Historical Idealism:

    http://www.catholic-forum.com/members/popestleo/Historical%20Idealism%20and%20Jehovahs%20Witnesses.pdf

I think it would give you the necessary documentation to show how the WT Society has manipulated the hisorical testimony.
