  I use Active Topics almost exclusively, unless starting a thread (can't figure out how to do it from Active Topics).

  You can't. You can do it 2 ways

  • Go to the topic heading where you want your thread to go
  • be in a discussion that is in that topic (topic in Friends will open a new discussion in Friends)
