Hey there, I was wondering if anyone could help me, last week one of my closest friends passed away in argentina, he been an ex-jehovah witness, but his family still practice as witnesses, is there any conduct in which you should attend a Jehovah Witness funeral, as I am unsure and would not like to do anything inapproriate? Also are flowers acceptable as gifts to members of his family? Any help of information would be grately apprectiated.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your friend
If you are familiar with Witness Meetings then no nothing different to them. If you are unfamiliar, the men dress in suits, women wear dresses or skirt and top. Bible and song book and you've got a witness funeral, which is often a recruiting drive for non believers and less about the person - though not always. Seeing as you are not a witness you can do as you feel is appropriate, I see no reason why you cant take along gift/flowers.

Thank you for that information, very helpful, also I was wondering as I was reading up on the religion, due to the fact my friend was an ex-witness, should he by right, not be able to have Jehovah Witness funeral?

Basic info about the religion: http://jwinfo.8m.com/jwinfo.htm

His funeral will depend upon how willing his family is to observe his wishes + what his status was when he died. For example, I am an ex-jw but am not formally excommunicated (called disfellowshipped or disassociated). If he was formally expelled, then the family probably will not be allowed to have the funeral inside the church (kingdom hall). The local elders may choose to provide a prayer or brief rememberance ceremony at the funeral home or family home if they want to.

Rebel....I believe there is no way in hell (so to speak) that they would allow you a KH funeral even if you were not DA'ed or DF'ed and only a backsliderâ„¢

I stopped going over 25 years ago and I would bet that even if I requested it a KH funeral for me would not happen. Am I wrong??
