It probably relates to the proximity / value to Christendom, and, the cultural significance to jws, or potential jws.
So
- the closer to Christendom the ritual, the more demonised it becomes (eg Easter and Christmas stuff)
- the more generally culturally significant it is to jws (or potential jws), the less demonised it becomes (eg pinatas, weddings)
