Offerning Bible Studies by Phone, is this common?

  A few days ago, my mom told me that a woman phoned to offer a free bible study. My mom asked who she was, and she said that she was a JW. So my mom said, "No Thanks" !!!

  I wonder if they do this alot, maybe a new way to try to get people to accept, since going door to door isn't to productive anymore.

  I guess people who see the JW come to their door, have time to prepare what to tell them, while on the phone, you could be caught off guard.

  I don't know of any handicapped JW in my congregation who wouldn't be able to go door to door.

  Well, they've done the telephone witnessing for at least 20 or 30 years. Generally, it's to contact people who live in gated communties or locked apartments to give them the chance to become a drone for the Borg hear this life-saving work! Generally speaking, most Witnesses don't expect to get anywhere with telephone witnessing; they simply do it to get their hours in.

  Hey, phone Bible studies...goes along with forcing the householder to come to your car to get the magazines (see ellerwho's topic: Lazy Witnesses). Anything to make service easier! LOL

  Not in this case. It's a house like any other on a normal street.

  Often they came over to my parents house, like any other house, but this time it was by phone, so I found it strange.

  Whoa , i have been out along time . I never heard of Recruiting over the phone when i was in and wonder if the jws just go randoming through the phone book for suckers.

  • Saves gas
  • You dont need a suit
  • You can do it whilst having coffee and donuts
  • You're already home when service is over
  • No intimidation of seeing that 6' 7" householder with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth starring down at ya
  • No embarrassing moments being seen by some of your workmates/schoolmates
  • You can make one call then watch TV for 20 minutes then make another call and keep the time a going.

  I know several witnesses (pioneers) including my mother, who do regular phone witnessing and conduct phone studies. I agree. It's weird.
