It seems they did believe that the “end was near” for the hot real estate market, so they sold short.

I was laughing my ass off at that statement . Well at least it's better than the jewish lightning that often strikes struggling empires in times of need for cash flow . I really don't unerstand why they don't just move to some other country where the land is cheap along with the labor because people are starving . Maybe they will be made fat and happy with all that spiritual food . Jeeze they wouldn't even have to force people to live in poverty then .

The crux of the matter is contained in these words:

"However, that low-cost labor force combined with the income from the publications they produce and of course donations, enabled Jehovah’s Witnesses to amass a real estate empire."

That's how they made their wealth from an unpaid or quasi unpaid workforce producing and selling their printed products, and donations from their members of money, real estate etc they have tens of thousands of kingdom halls alone around the world.

But their charitable spirit has always been shockingly poor for an org that claims to have the absolute religious truth.

Yah , rather than just give it back to the people they couldn't help themselves but turn a profit . That would have made a great retirement home for some dubbies . That's the problem with this cult , after they are done exploiting people they just throw ya out on your ass anyway. That's quite a charity there.

The Brooklyn development deal is just one example of how the organization has cashed in on its member’s hard work.

Ain't that the truth? Their "empire" is built on all the dead bodies and broken lives of those who believed their crap for so many years, only to be told that it was their fault for "running ahead of God's Chariot (aka the FDSC)

What's really interesting is that in close proximity ( a10 min walk) to the Societies buildings is are 3 government subsidized housing projects that many dubs who attend the congo at bethel are live.

Without this public housing many of these people would be homeless.

They can sell off their property for millions of dollars, but much of their income comes from poor people who benefit from government subsidizes either welfare or through housing.

The WTBS certainly isn't going to share any of the profits with their poor members nor will they give a dime of their profit to the governement agencies that support their publishers.

They are just a big greedy corporation and they should just admit it.

Admit it? And kill the goose that lays the golden egg?
