Flames and hellfire - public talks in conflict?

There's no hellfire in Jehovah's organization, or so we're told. When I put a list of public talks together, though, I found a couple of titles at odds. Are Jehovah's Witness parents any less afraid of Armageddon's fires?

Here's the title of two public talks:

104 Parents Are You Building With Fire-Resistant Materials?

128 Is Hell Really a Place of Fiery Torment?

Can anyone confirm for me the outlines of thes two talks?

    Thank you.

I am pretty sure those are the titles.

And I agree with you: witnesses develop and encourage a fear of Armageddon that rivals the fear of hellfire.

But consider this: why fear Armageddon or hell, when the witnesses create the VERY REAL HELL of estrangement from your family and close friends???

Usually this occurs when a person needs them the most, as in divorce. I have a close relative who told the truth, that the marriage was over while his wife lied lied lied and said OH YES I want to work it out. They DF'd him, let her stay.

NOW, when he needs his parents and extended family in a desperate way, NO family.

How's that for hell on earth?

Although eternal destruction, death without any hope of resurrection, is bad; it still doesn't compare to burning physically forever in hell as a few religions teach. Interestingly, hellfire was the doctrine that got Russell on the road to seeking knowledge. Those who are of the "there is no god" belief actually believe that when you die that is it. Of course, the Armageddon of WTS lore is the premature termination of biliions of lives.

    Agreed Blondie,

Eternal tormet is unfathomable to me. I'd take death in a heartbeat over torture. Russell deserves a pat on the back for doing what he did (at that time)...that being a person who stood up against most of christianity who believed in the foolish doctrine of hellfire which opposes any just god.

I had the idea that jgnat's original question was whether the subject matter of these two talks conflicts with the JW "no-hell" doctrine. They do not. I remember hearing both these talks at least once during my JW sentence ;)

    • "Is Hell Really a Place of Fiery Torment?" answers the question in the negative.
    • "Parents, Are You Building With Fire-Resistant Materials?" - this title is a reference to 1 Cor. 3:13-15, where the "fire" referred to is interpreted as the destructive judgement of Armageddon.

    jgnat's real question:

Are Jehovah's Witness parents any less afraid of Armageddon's fires?

No, I don't think so. Not at all.

All he did was jump on board with a couple of Adventists like Storrs who taught him otherwise. Don't make him out to be some modern Luther, now.

And the teaching is in the NT, so Russell and others that felt ethical ire about it should have disavowed the NT but instead chose to ignore the obvious and create a new impossible "harmonization" of the divergent and evolving theological perspectives in the Bible.

Doesn't really matter who he learned it from. He at least had the balls to speak and publish a doctrine that wasn't popular amoung the masses. He also in my opinion was fervent about a good cause...that being trying to squash a bible god dishonoring belief and one that in my opinion isn't taught in the scriptures.

    Gumby.....from a biblical perspective.

Russell was a False teacher who spoke many perverse things. Jesus warned of Ravening Wolves who would come to the Church in Sheep's clothing and lead many Astray
