Another tricky thing after you've pulled up the control panel, clicked on internet options, deleted all your "cookies, temporary internet files and history" so as not to allow the pio/sis a peek at "where" you hang out on the internet, and after you've created a guest user screen name so she can't see your favorites/bookmarks..........there's STILL the matter of all the Windows files, such as Microsoft Word, My documents, Microsoft Office, etc. ad infinitum.......because it is your system.

You really might want to plead that there's something wrong with your computer, maybe a virus, so she won't use it at all. I'd never put sneakability past a dyed-in-the-wool jdubya and chances are very alarming that she wants to see what you've been looking at/for and "where" you've been on the internet. You never know. The WTS promotes "pioneer meetings" all the time and they may have given them the mission of seeking out computer users to attempt to detect "defectors."

Frannie (of the you can't EVER trust a jdubya class, cause I've seen some really underhanded crapola dished out by WTSpies)

Tell her you are "uncomfortable" letting other people share your computer. Ask her what it is she wants to look up. After she tells you what it is (hah!) tell her you will look it up for her...just as soon as you have time.

If it were me, I'd ask here what she wants to look up. I'd then look it up for her and print it out.

This should be a no-brainer. Allowing her to go anywhere on the net could cause damage to your system if she ends up on pages that contain virus' and the like.

No one is ever allowed to actually sit at my computer and start clicking on links and pages. Not even my daughter. I make sure I know exactly where she's going and what she's clicking on.

Politely just tell her it's a matter of privacy and security. Then offer to perhaps take her to the library or an internet cafe. Or if she's able to go herself, perhaps you could suggest you will go with her if she needs any help in her search.

If she gets offended, oh well. She will get over it.

I just set up a Guest acct. on my XP (thanks, guys I didn't know about that) I've had one of my JW kids use it to check E-mail. I would go through all the trouble of deleting histories & favorites...only to have to re-do all of them later !

So, I'm glad this question was brought up.

I noticed, too that "My Photos" and a couple of others WERE still able to be seen by going thru My Computer. I have a lot of ApostaFest pics there ! I could not find a way to disallow access by Guest accounts, surely there is a way ?

    Anybody...anybody ? Bueller...?

Edited to say: My kid is a computer whiz...

Rabbit, you should be able to set up a password for all of your folders, including photos.

Rabbit, theres a piece of software that can lock folders on your computers. Download page is http://www.newsoftwares.net/folderlock/ However it might raise questions like "whats so important, secret that its in a locked folder anyway"

If you have XP, make anothe user, especially for her, or for other guests.

Then there is none of the history you mentioned available to other users

XP? I think I do..or is it 98? How do I know? (I know, real dumb question )

Deny access to any shared folders on your computer, if you have any, to this user.

This only works if the hard drive is NTFS rather than FAT32 though. Translated into english that means...?? make a guest user and put password on your system. This seems to be the overall idea and I will definetly do this. And your all absolutely sure that if I make a 'guest user' no history or anything will pop up right? Tell her no. Period. I wish. My folks would have a fit. Plus there still the ones paying off the computer. chances are very alarming that she wants to see what you've been looking at/for and "where" you've been on the internet. You never know. The WTS promotes "pioneer meetings" all the time and they may have given them the mission of seeking out computer users to attempt to detect "defectors." Frannie, ya think??!! Nah, I don't think she is that even that skillful with a computer. Plus, all she said she wanted to do was check her bank statement. If it were me, I'd ask here what she wants to look up. I'd then look it up for her and print it out. She wanted to check her bank statement. I don't have a printer. I'm sorry but in reading this thread it suddenly made me realize how ridiculous is the watchtower fear - imagine any other rational person who might be terrified that someone might find out they took a peak at some porn on their computer and here we are instead, terrified that someone might find out we look at some religious site....puts the whole mess that the society is right up front and in our face doesn't it?..sw Sad but so true.
