G'day all,
The good thing about the holidays (downunder it's the summer break) is that we can catch up our reading.
So the day after Boxing day, off to the bookshop went Mrs Ozzie and I.
Mrs Ozzie seemed almost keen to look for books on cults. that's quite unlike her, perhaps because she doesn't usually read 'em but as for me, well, I was most reluctant. I've had enough! I said. They just bore me to tears.
Anyway Mrs Ozzie showed me a couple and she bought them
Guess what? I'm reading them!!
The first is the latest? (2001) by Ron Rhodes "The 10 Most Important Things You Can Say to a Jehovah's Witness". It's written in a user-friendly style and hey! I need to be treated user-friendly!!! It has icons throughout indicating such things as "A witnessing tip", "An important point", "The Watchtower position" and so on. What really annoyed me was his liking for referring to the Watchtower Society by the initials "WS"; for crying out loud, it makes me wonder about someone who can't use "WTS" or even "WTBTS"! I would also question the wisdom of his including his important point #6 "The Biblical God is a Trinity" - I wonder whether I'd include that as one of the most imporatnt thing to say to a dub, but it's there! I am glad though that right at the top of the pile on his list is "The Watchtower Society Does Not Speak for God". That's more like it! Show the organisation is false, whilst separating the dub from the org. Not a bad addition to our library. We got it at Koorong A$10.95.
The other book was from two authors I haven't read before, John Ankerberg and John Weldon; it's called "Fast Facts on Jehovah's Witnesses". Fast it's certainly not, but quite readable. We got the 2003 edition. It's written for non-witnesses and has a chapter on "What to say to a JW". Not bad. It cost us A$13.95
If you've got nothing better to read these holidays, you could do far worse than read these two - yep, go for it!
