Bonuses were never the problem for me, but receiving gifts from relatives for birthdays or holidays were an issue. I told everybody that we didn't celebrate and to please not send gifts (to me especially), but most did anyway.
My parents would send us gifts a month before Christmas. I always accepted because I know how much time and effort my mom put into choosing and wrapping all the stuff, and I knew it would hurt her deeply if I spurned her generosity and refused them. Also, my kids weren't baptized and their dad was not a JW...seemed wrong to return gifts for them. Guess I was a weak dub, but it didn't feel right to do it any other way.
