Rinder, head of Scientology International's Office of Special Affairs, said such accounts were fabricated by "apostates," members who had abandoned the religion.

(We're not only the former members of a religion branded "apostate")

    ----------------------------

Former members say they were told the mansion was built for Hubbard's return.
"The whole theory of that house was that before Hubbard died in 1986, David Miscavige told us, Hubbard told him he was going to come back and make himself visible within 13 years," Schless Pressley said.

(Sounds like Beth Sarim all over again)

Most certainly, Scientology labels it's former members as apostate. Their is just as for the JW's no honorable way of leaving the Scientology religion. They are in fact much more aggressive against defectors then most cults as they will go out of their way to destroy your credibility and financial status if you seek to expose them. Scientology has put a strong front on against many websites and even sucessfully suing a counter-cult agency. Now it runs a pseudo-cult awareness site, basically scientology being the wolf in sheeps clothing. All these groups have many similarities, which allows them to be grouped with identifying marks that can be identified according to biderman's chart of coercion. http://hometown.aol.com/carol2180/biderman.htm

Of course there are big similarities. Although the Scientology religion is a lot more clever in attracting celebritites (hence the Celebrity Centre located in LA)

I always wonder why the WT doesn't take advantage of the celebrity clientale they could attract by appealing to them more. Imagine how much word of mouth they could get from a guy like Tom Cruise if they wanted to. He apparently has donated millions to the religion already.

Hmmm..I wonder if Prince drops in a couple hundreds after leaving the literature counter???
