Do any of you get annoyed when nonjw's say they admire the jw zealousness? They agree it's all crap but still admire the zealousness! Would they feel the same if it was a pure Satanic cult knocking on their doors? I think just because they use the bible to spread their false teachings people excuse it and think it's 'not that bad'. Nazi's were pretty zealous too! They don't understand the message behind this 'zealousness'.

I had a priest tell me that once. When I pursued the conversation, it was more along the lines of him trying very hard to find something nice to say about JWs. Most people I've met think the zealousness and everything that goes along with it shows JWs are nuts. PS--Either we are both early birds and post on JWD at the same time, or you must think I'm stalking you. I'm beginning to think I am always the 1st one to respond to your threads, LOL.

Its a mental framing Carla. Simply put, brainwashing. These are the things that witnesses say to each other. Fine effort, happy, good example, crap like that. The admiration of zeal is simply a camaraderie of brainwashing. Its as if the speaking party is self inoculating from thinking. Zeal, yeah. Zeal. The focus for that one moment is not on thinking but on "That person wouldn't be zealous if this wasn't a worthwhile endeavor." That's all it is.

Ha Rebel! I would have posted even earlier but didn't think anybody was up yet!
No, I'm talking about people who I just get done telling them some of horrors of jw and they still say, 'well, you gotta admire their being so zealous'. It frustrates me to no end. But, then, they really don't understand the scope of the situation I guess.

A lot of people think jw's are "zealous" but if they knew what really goes on to create this sense of "zealousness",they wouldn't feel the same way about jw's.People in general think the jw's go preaching because they want to when nothing could be further from the truth.Their whole spiritual being depends on them going door-to-door for x number of hours every month.Any slow-down that lasts too long will have detrimental consequences for a jw and this is their prime motivation,not true love of neighbor.

Another reason I have heard witnesses do this is because they equate a "misquided" zealous person with the apostle Paul. You know, he persecuted christians very zealously, then he saw the light and became a christian himself, then applied that same zeal to christian living. So, since witnesses view everyone as another potential witness, they love to say that they admire zealousness because they imagine they could bring that person into the org and have a real firestarter.
