Funny this should come up. Sunday night some of my friends from church and I went out to dinner after the worship service. Our senior pastor asked me what plans I have for Thanksgiving. When I said I had not celebrated Thanksgiving Day for almost 20 years he said, "It's not a day, it's a season" which made sense to me. I prolly got 25 invites to dinners, etc. when my friends heard about how, as a JW I wasn't allowed to give thanks to God for blessing our nation and its peoples with good things. I'm so glad I am out of that whacko cult.

I have done research on it myself already but I need to do it again to be certain.

Where do you want to research it? The Bible?

Bible believers should research the Bible - or ask someone who knows the Bible - not a book publishing house founded by fundamentalist quack with Adventist dreams.

Honesty: 25 invites - you are popular - how many do you think you can accept without getting full up! hehe

However my reaction would be - if we celebrated thanksgiving over here - that I'd like to express gratitude to my friends but have no intention of thanking a non existent being for anything anymore than I would santa claus.

When gina and I left the JW's, we told our neighbors that we were out. Christmas Day we got a call from one of those neighbors asking if we were doing anything. No? Would you like to come have Christmas dinner with us and our family?

Spur of the moment, out of the blue, a "worldly" family called up and invited us on a traditionally "family day" to enjoy their home and hospitality. We happily accepted and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Dave/Almost Atheist - that is a lovely story and not as uncommon as we are led to believe as JWs about worldly people. I had the same experience. Whilst I was living alone there wsnt a single christmas that several people didn;t invite me to join them for their family christmas and those that I did accept I felt so welcome and part of it it was unbelievable. hey didn't judge me for me awkwardness or reluctance or push me into partaking in anything I felt uncomfortable about - they were just relaxed andas you said totally hospitable.

I think JWs should do week house stops with worldly people to learn how to show genuine christian love maybe and learn the true meaning of unconditional love and hospitality.
