the Lord has granted a place of repentance to all who would be converted to Him. Noah preached repentance, and as many as listened to him were saved

As was pointred out already, Jehovah had already chosen Noah & his family to be saved. It had nothing to do with their listening to them.

I checked several translations & they all agree with the Interlinear & y'alls comments about them not knowing rather than ignoring Noah.

It is amazing how little of what we were taught actually has the backing of the Bible.

".....Thus the closing scenes of this present age will be a reproduction of the days
of Noah: the same intense worldliness, and at last positive inability to care for the things of
God, which was displayed by the antediluvians, will also be characteristic of our world
when Christ begins the judgments that will quickly culminate in the glory of His
appearing. It seems fair, then, to infer that.......

The seven great causes of the antediluvian apostasy have been already noticed, and may be summed up as follows.

I A tendency to worship God as Elohim, that is, merely as the Creator and Benefactor, and not as
Jehovah the covenant God of mercy, dealing with transgressors who are appointed to
destruction, and finding a ransom for them.

II An undue prominence of the female sex, and a disregard of the primal law of marriage.

III A rapid progress in the mechanical arts, and the consequent invention of many devices whereby
the hardships of the curse were mitigated, and life was rendered more easy and indulgent. Also a
proficiency in the fine arts, which captivated the minds of men, and helped to induce an entire
    oblivion of God.

IV An alliance between the nominal Church and the World, which speedily resulted in a complete
    amalgamation.

V A vast increase of population.

VI The rejection of the preaching of Enoch [and Noah], whose warnings thus became a savour of
death unto the world, and hardened men beyond recovery.

VII The appearance upon earth of beings from the Principality of the Air, and their unlawful
    intercourse with the human race.

These causes concurred to envelop the world in a sensuous mist which no ray of truth
    could penetrate. They brought about a total forgetfulness of God and disregard of His will;
and thus, by removing the great Centre Who alone is able to attract men from themselves,
rendered the dwellers upon earth so selfish and unscrupulous that the world was presently
filled with lewdness, injustice, oppression, and bloodshed. It remains, therefore, for us to
consider whether similar influences are now acting upon society.

And certainly we cannot but confess that the first-mentioned cause is eminently
characteristic of our times. For in all the professing Churches of Christendom, as well as
among Jews, Mahometans, and Pagans, there are countless and ever-increasing multitudes
who go in the way of Cain (Jude II), acknowledging the Supreme Being, but not
recognizing His holiness and their own depravity, and so denying all necessity of a
Mediator between God and man. Many of these are willing to look upon Christ as some
great one, and will talk of His wise philosophy and exemplary life: but they neither confess
Him to be the Only Begotten Son of the Father, nor feel the need of His atonement.
Consequently, they reject His revelation, as an absolute authority at least, trusting rather to
the darkness within them which they call light; and thus, closing their eyes to the true
relations of man with his Creator, form their own conceptions both of the Deity and of
themselves. This involves nothing less than a claim on their part to supreme wisdom and
authority: it is moulding an idol out of their own imagination before which to fall down
and worship. Nor need we wonder that it leads to a virtual deification of men of
transcendent intellect or great renown. Who has not detected the working of this leaven in
his own circle? Who has not observed this” pure Theism,” as it is called, rising to the
surface in all the sects of Christendom?......."

That Narcisso's reference is really informative. It is interesting this historical acct helps us to understand that the early Christians preached, and used the Noah account as a real, and motivator.

I'm not sure whether all or a limited number had preach in the 1st century, but I know that it couldn't be like it is structured today. For instance, the qualifications for Elders, and Min Servants don't mention it. But, somehow the Society, Elders, and Circuit Overseers magically see it there and do a mathematical formula to see if the candidate averages 10 hrs per month. It used to be the National Average, but since that has dropped to 7.5 hrs, they are still holding to 10 as the figure.

Preaching is a Christian practice for sure, but something doesn't quite add up with the methods of the society. We need to have a serious look at the Insight to the Scriptures book. The one doing the research should be someone as honest and reliable as Raymond Franz was when he worked on the Aid to Bible Understanding book. Then a radical change should occur withing the organization and they should cease using unbiblical terms such as Pioneers, Auxilliary, and Regular, and Special. Get rid of the slips of paper. If they want to count the hours, then make the reporting of them undisclosed.

I think I'm only dreaming, though

Good point. Here are some observations I made about that subject a while back.

    Noah's preaching

In Gen chap 6 God gave Noah very detailed instructions about building the ark. In 6:18 and 7:1 he gave specific instructions about who to take into the ark. No instructions were given to Noah about warning anyone that they too should get on board with him. Apparently, the judging had already been done and Noah was chosen to be saved because he was a righteous man.

Hebrews 11:7 shows that Noah built the ark 'for the saving of his household'--not anyone else. The Bible calls Noah a preacher of righteousness. However, it gives no indication that he undertook a global campaign to warn people of a coming flood of which they 'took no note'. So while Noah was a 'preacher of righteousness' this may refer to his preaching righteousness before the matter of the flood ever came up. This may have contributed to his being chosen to be saved.

Is it even practical that Noah could have set out on a global mission to get people into the ark? Did people on the other side of the world even know he was building an ark? Since the size of the ark had already been determined , did Jehovah really intend for other people to join Noah? Matthew 24:39------ and they took no note until the flood came and swept them all away. . .NEW WORLD TRANS

Almost any Bible you pick up indicates that people were not expecting the flood----not that were ignoring noah's warning. They didn't know it was coming. It is notewothy that the Kingdom Interlinear Bible published by Jehovah's Witnesses renders the Greek "not they knew" but the English "they took no note". Is there not a difference in not knowing something and taking no note of something you know? Other Bibles say: were unaware--knew not--did not understand--knew nothing about what was happening--didn't know anything was happening--knew nothing about what would happen--didn't realize what was going to happen--did not know--they knew nothing

This fits in perfectly with the context and the point Jesus was making. His point was that his return would come as a surprise; not announced beforehand. This becomes apparent by considering Luke's account. Luke 17:28 says "likewise" and compares the days of Noah with the days of Lot------sudden unexpected destruction as they were eating, drinking, buying, selling, planting and building. There is no indication of a warning work before the destruction of Sodom. Jesus said in vs 30 :"The same way it will be on that day when the Son of man is to be revealed". Do we not understand that day to be his coming at Armageddon?

Notice Kingdom song # 215 Extending Mercy to Others 1. When Jehovah decreed that a deluge Should destroy wicked men long ago, Then to Noah he gave a commission: ‘Build an ark! Preach the word! Let men know!’ Now, did Noah reject that assignment, Since he never had built arks before? No, but he made good use of God’s mercy, And he built and he preached more and more. Where in the Bible do we find this 'commission' to preach? Or that he 'preached more and more'?

(Luke 17:27-30) . . .. 28 Likewise, just as it occurred in the days of Lot: they were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building. 29 But on the day that Lot came out of Sod'om it rained fire and sulphur from heaven and destroyed them all. 30 The same way it will be on that day when the Son of man is to be revealed.

It seems like a waste of time to debate or do in depth research about a fictional event.

Fieldgoal, that is also a very good point. Especially the reference to Lot. That gets skipped over.
