Has anyone else noticed this about the Jeremiah book?

Im lost going through the Jeremiah book. I though this was going to be a book about prophecy. Its anything but. Its all about how we should bear strict obedience to JHVH and by extension the GB.

But theres something else. Take a look at how many times the words "perhaps, maybe, archaeology suggests, what if, etc occurs. In one lesson I noticed these words over ten times. For instance, there is the time Jeremiah was struck. The book says "perhaps he was struck 39 times".

    WTH?

So there is a supposition and then there is a conclusion drawn on the supposition, and then we are instructed to follow the advice of the conclusion drawn on the supposition.

We have people in our congregation who love this book. They comment on how important it is to obey STRICT obedience NO MATTER HOW HARD IT HURTS!!!

    Sheesh

Some people love rules - and love to apply them to others. In the congregation, they use these publications to justify their actions.

Good observation. The Revelation book is also slam full of those same, vague words.

I still go to the meetings, hoping that there will actually be something substantive, or meaningful. But it looks like I had better not hold my breath!

    Last weeks lesson

Consider the possibility that Baruch's "great things" were material riches.

Then 5 paragraphs bashing higher education and working overtime all based on a possibility.

I believe that the GB had an axe to grind with Joe Publisher and twisted the scriptures to fit.

I tried reasoning with some family about what the " great things " might be. I said, " We don't know what they were. Maybe he wanted a better job than he had, or a wife and children and a normal life. Those things were not practical at the time for Baruch." They said, " Oh no! Only Jeremiah was commanded not to have children. Baruch wanted material things, higher education..."

There is no reasoning with them. They are brainwashed. It's sad.....

"Consider the possibility that Baruch's "great things" were material riches."

That's because they haven't read the book of Baruch in the Vulgate...I started reading it in Latin years and years ago, and it seemed the 'great things' was for Baruch to make a name for himself as a writer. WT has no clue. They just 'suppose' in order to support their own agenda.

A British flyer in WW2 was quoted as saying "Rules are made for the conveyance of fools and guidance of wise men".

WT has no clue. "Julia Orwell"

Oh they do. It is out of the Apocrypha they came up with the 7000 yr. creative days [ found in a passage from 1st or 2nd Esdras, can't remember which ]. They will ignore or use ANYTHING to hang their hat on, if it suits their agenda.

The Jeremiah book discussion reminds me of the handling of the " bible highlights (as instructed) by the assigned elder/

take one little text and spin a wt/obedience or consequences talk on it,

totally ignoring the profound questions than pop up in verse by verse analysis of those fables.

expect more of the same from the same people.
