Apparently Jack Barr, member of the GB, has given a new interpretation of the Generation in one of his speaches i.e. that the Generation can apply to those who knew someone who lived in 1914....

Will it never end???? It's embarassing! Anyone here heard about this?

Isn't Jack himself born 1800 something...so maybe he's not aware of what he says anymore??

Interesting to see if it will be printed in the WT.

I though Apostolic Succession was only a teaching of the Roman Catholic Church? So, apparently -- at least according to the World According To Garp Jack, there have been "Jehovah's Witnesses" (i.e., "faithful ones", a.k.a. "the Generation that will not die") ever since Abel...through the first century, through the dark ages....until the modern day International Bible Students Assoiation, through to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Under Jack's Theorem of The Generation, it is like a chain: as long as the chain is unbroken, there will always be a representative of the "Generation." Someone knows Jack Barr, who knew Franz, who knew Rutherford, who knew Russell...all the way back to Christ.

Hey, I met Jack Barr on more than one occasion, even shook his hand at Bethel....does that make me part of the Generation? Do I get to profess as one of the Annointed? Pass the emblems Wheat Thins and Merlot please.

bleeechh, give me a break...and don't count on that crap in the Wacktower. If Barr said that, then Barr went off the reservation with that comment.

I think everyone needs to hold on here......I think we are overstating this just a little bit. Let me explain.

I was ALWAYS taught that there have been annointed learning from annointed (JW's, just not called that) ever since Jesus' time. And yes, it would kind of be like an apostolic succession.

It's like this......it started with the apostles...then knowledge was passed down through the OVERLAPPING Generations....along came Martin Luther, then Calvin, then Miller, Barbour, Russell, Rutherford, Knorr, and finally down to our current Governing Body. I was taught that this is the way it was, and that now the Light is getting brighter and we are finally able to see some of this "lineage" of Truth.

However, what Jack Barr is stating about the Generation of 1914 is COMPLETELY different that what was in the WT and Awake! of May 1984 and up thru until 1995, 2008. We were distinctly told, PROMISED even, that THE Generation of 1914 that SAW or were born during the events that occurred during those times (1914-1919) would be the ones to see the Great Tribulation, and hence Armaggedon and then the New Order ushered in. This doctrine set a clear timetable for the End Times.

I just wanted to clarify that JW's ALWAYS felt that knowledge was passed down from generation of annointed to generation of annointed, that is NOT "New Light". What is "New Light" is Jack's statement of there now being more than "one" generation from the time of Christ's invisible parousia till the Great Tribulation/Armaggedon/New Order.

Jack Barr is born in 1913, just for the record. Baptised 1932, in the administration since 1939.

Also, he's an idiot. Just for the record.

Hippie, you're still active as a JW, right? If so---WHY????

Another change of "a generation"? It is blatantly obvious now that they are cheating--segueing two generations to make "one". Now, my estimate for Armageddon is 2154. Time to screech around at 160 MPH in the city, scrambling to reach everyone before then.

At one time, it even went beyond that: They used to say that the generation of 1914 meant people old enough in 1914 to have known the significance of the Russell prophecy. That would mean, by any stretch of the imagination, that such a person would be over 105 years of age now.

Are there such "millions" still alive? Hardly. Hence the double-talk to get past this nonsence.

I'm posting a brief summary of "this generation" as recorded in the Watchtower Society's publication. This has been posted before, but I believe it is good to have it reiterated here:

    This Generation (Mathew 24:34)...

    -1927
    = The Anointed
    [Watchtower February 15, 1927 page 62]

    -1942 = Anyone alive to see 1914[Watchtower July 1, 1942 page 204]

-1995 = Wicked People alive today
    [Watchtower November 1, 1995 page 19]

    -2008 = The Anointed
    [Watchtower February 15, 2008 page 24]
