ITHINKISEE Update: Pizza with Santa Claus

So we took the kids out for pizza tonight. It is usually Kid's Night and there is a clown there and she paints faces and gives the kids little trinkets.

Tonight the clown was there, but ALSO ...... SANTA CLAUS!

(Bear in mind, we are STILL in the town where we know everyone and are going to escape from at the end of this month ...)

He sat on his Santa throne and he was giving presents out to all the kids that came up and sat on his lap.

Both of our girls were looking longingly at Santa. In front of the tree. With presents and kids all around him.

I leaned over and told my oldest "You know, if you want to go up there and sit on his lap you can. You don't have to tell him you don't celebrate Christmas. If he says 'Merry Christmas', just say thank you. If he asks what you want for Christmas, just tell him some things you want. Like some of those Star Wars action figures or something."

She sat there thinking about it for a little bit more.

I also told her, "I know a lot of our friends don't do Christmas, and might think that it is weird that you sat on Santa's lap. We probably shouldn't tell them about it. But, if you are okay with that then go ahead, and have fun!"

So her and our youngest both walked up and sat on his lap. They told Santa what they wanted, and then they each got a present. Our oldest got a jump rope, and our youngest got some bubble stuff.

Tonight they went to bed, and I think they have already forgotten about it.

That's fine though. It was a nice "Santa stigma-breaker" for next year when we can go all out.

Kids being allowed to be normal kids.... It's awesome.

You are giving them the biggest gift they will ever get. Congratulations.

Great news, about your girls. Next year will be really special for them. Start planning some customs to start for them, things you can look forward to all year as a family.

Our big extended family goes into Seattle every year during the season to ride the Christmas carousel in the middle of downtown (it's $1.00 each and the money goes to charity). Then we all go to Starbucks (there is about 18 of us) and get lattes, hot chocolates, and goodies, drink them in the center of the square enjoying the lights and decorations in Macy's. Then we all go inside Macy's and each family buys an ornament for their tree. One of our sons' three kids sees Santa there and gets their picture taken. That's one of our traditions.

I was wondering the other day if my folks ever took me to see Santa. I was 4 the last time we celebrated Christmas and they went all out, so I suppose I did. I just have no memory of it. They were lodge members and I remember the Christmas parties at the lodge hall, and think there must have been a Santa. I have pictures of two of my cousins with Santa at the lodge, and he was their Dad.

Knowing how I was back then, I probably cried. I was awfully shy, believe it or not.

See what you have done ITHINKISEE! You've even touched Johnny Cip with your story! That's because it is a wonderful story. Of how you are letting your children lead a normal life. congratulations

Not to steal the thread, but I was at the mall the other day, and saw Santa sitting there on his throne in all his demonic glory, and went to get in line to sit on Santa's lap, and have my picture taken (I thought it would be a riot on here). And then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw a witness sister sitting right at the girft wrap desk, which points directly at Santa's little kiosk of Christ. So, no Santa for Richie this year, once again thanks to Jehovah's Witnesses.

ITIS, I can't even begin to tell you how much I respect and admire you and your wife for how you are raising your children. Actually, you want to adopt a 17 year old fat kid? (I'll do all my chores!)
