Bethel Trip

    Ok... this is good.

For those of you who missed my last post on the topic of my Bethel trip, My mother "suprised" me with a bus trip to Bethel. We leave Wednsday morning (April 13) at 6am.

I do believe that my mother is doing this trip more for her than for me. HEre are some things that have come up:

I can not wear my camoflage hat. While hunting is never condemned by the ORG, it is a conscience matter. Me wearing a camo hat can/will stumble some of my "beloved" brothers and sisters.

I can not wear my black boots on the casual days when we are allowed to dress "comfortable". They are tall boots like loggers wear. I have a bad ankle and the boot really helps support my ankle. Apparently, since mom has seen the "army people" (i.e. Soldiers) wear black boots that somewhat resemble mine, I am now an "army wannabe". She doesnt seem to understand that its just a pair of shoes.

I can not bring my iPod. "we are going on this trip to be built up spiritually. You can't do that with music blasting in your ears."

I can not bring my laptop ( for the same reason as iPod). While I can see where this request is not entirely unreasonable, I am in 3 college level classes which require me to do work constantly. My teachers have already said that my work is due when everone elses is, regardless of where I go.

Any of you who were raised as witnesses know how touchy Dub parents are. The fact that I'm typing this and you're reading this obviously testifies to the effectiveness of these methods...

My mother really got me with this last one though. She is taking my ATM card from me. So that way, should I decide to something "risque" I won't be able to fund it. The sad thing is, while doing all these things, she never bothered to ask me to whether I have money that I can get with that ATM card. That account has been closed for over a year now, and all the money I earn is deposited in another account, which I have the card to.

I don't know why I wasted yalls time with this, but maybe some of have some interesting stories about overbearing parents or the like that you would like to share.

Well, Richie Rich, be prepared to sing Kingdom songs and watch many WT videos and 'approved' worldly movies.

Be prepared to be with rude, selfish pushy people.

Those of us who have toured Bethel should supply you with some questions for the tour guides.

    Any good ideas out there.

    1) Where did Sister Rutherford live at Brooklyn Bethel? Did she ever visit?

    2) Where did the brothers get the wine for the Memorial during Prohibition?

    3) Who is going to live in those new residence buildings...we heard that quite a few people were sent up to Wallkill?

I can not wear my camoflage hat.
I can not wear my black boots

    When in doubt, GO NAKED!!!

Sorry to hear that you're forced to go along with this, especially at your age. I can relate. Even though it's only a year until you turn 18, it's gonna be a long year.

Even after you turn 18, you'll probably still be dragged kicking and screaming to the Kingdom Hall. That's what happened to me until I started rebelling big time.

No worries there. I'm rebelling as hard as I can right now. One monkey don't stop this show. I've got my DA letter typed, and saved in several places. The day I get out of this house (immediately at 18) the brothers and many more will get to read it. As a matter of fact, I had my DA letter typed before I ever got baptized. Thanks though... and Blondie... I'll let you know on those questions... They should turn some heads..

So... sounds like you had a great time!

Cheer up, in about a year you'll be 18, and you can wear and do, whatever you please!

    2) Where did the brothers get the wine for the Memorial during Prohibition?

There was a provision in the prohibition law for religious services. How do you think the Catholics got it? (if the provision wasn't there, probably from the mafia)

Personally, RR, I feel sorry for you. I couldn't live one day without my iPod or laptop.

good luck man. about the DA letter though....don't send it in. just go to college and fade away so you can at least keep a civil relationship with your parents...you will want it later in life.

    I agree with Jaredg!

I knew that, class, in fact I visited the Brotherhood Winery where the sacerdotal wine was made...they said that the volume of that wine went up dramatically during Prohibition.

Don't get in trouble, RR...I was jus kidding on most of that.

Really you have 2 ties to your parents that get in the way of fading:

    Emotional

    Financial

But they can be dealt with.

    Love, Blondie

PS take a neck pillow, pack light, get ear plugs.
