Thanks Mac, that's interesting. What kind of "secular community service program" does the WTS have?!

    Thanks for the info MacH

did you see this on the
    FAQ page!

    http://www.microsoft.com/giving/faq.htm

    What does Microsoft fund?

At Microsoft we have a strong belief that if you provide people the resources they need, they can accomplish great things. This philosophy is the foundation of our software business. It is also the foundation of our community affairs effort.

Microsoft makes grants of cash, software, and technical support to nonprofit organizations worldwide in order to:

Help bring the benefits of information technology to people and communities.

Provide support to organizations in communities in which our employees live and work.

Support our employees taking an active role in their community through volunteer and matching–gift programs.

    For more information click here.

How do I know if my organization is eligible?

Microsoft supports a wide range of charitable organizations with their own tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code. However, some organizations and projects are not eligible to receive donations from Microsoft Community Affairs, including:

    Individuals
    Private foundations
Political, labor, religious, or fraternal organizations
Amateur or professional sports groups, teams, or events
    Hospitals
    Conferences or symposia
Sponsorship of events, tables, exhibitions, or performances
Fundraising events such as luncheons, dinners, walks, runs, or sports tournaments
U.S.-based organizations serving people and communities outside of the United States

Why did Microsoft donate to the WTBTS?

We should find out. Someone probably told them if they didn't they were going to the new beast of revelation, to replace to UN.

    G'day Mac,

    Interesting report here.

I'd guess that if Microsoft donated software (not the cash option) then some boys at Bethel will be having fun playing games.

From what I've seen, branch offices are full of under-utilised computer equipment. The fact is, that few are skilled (i.e. further education) enough even in the Computer Department, to get the most from it.

    Cheers,
    Ozzie (of the anti-Luddite class)

How did the WTBS receive some funds and why!

If I understand it correctly, this is a different program than the "matching employee donations" thing. But of course that doesn't answer the question how the WTS got donations for some "secular community service"!

    The FAQ says:

Microsoft will only match gifts to religious organizations when the gift is designated to an ongoing secular community service program sponsored by these organizations and does not propagate a belief in a specific faith.

How on earth could the WTS qualify, then?? Maybe one should simply ask them. I didn't find an e-mail address on first glance, though.

we can look to the mexican army scam.(bribery, to dodge military service)
we can look at how the WT told its people to leave ther bibles home and pretend the the KH was a social club scam(to dodge taxes)
we can look at how the WT claims that DF does not break family ties(PR scam)

could it be the WT misrepresented itself??? it has been done befor. it will be done again. one con is as good as another.

the ideas and opinions expressed in this post do not necessiarly represent those of the WTB&TS inc. or any of it's subsidiary corporations.

I don't usually go here ..... but .... I remember an old H20 thread that suggested someone saw an Awake! or a WT rag beside Bill Gates in a restaurant interview with 60 minutes ........

Caution .... this is going on my memory and I could (and hopefully am) completely out to lunch on this ....

Compaq and Watchtower Bible & Tract
Society of New York A Success Story...

The year 2000 saw dynamic growth in E&I's Compaq contract, racking up
some $35 million in sales, which is up from $23 million in the previous year.
As we acknowledge this tremendous growth, it is also important to recognize
all of those members whose participation made it possible. One of E&I's great
success stories of 2000 is the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New
York, which accounts for nearly $1.5 million in Compaq purchases.

Watchtower is a legal organization in use by the Jehovah's Witnesses, whose
governing body is headquartered in Brooklyn, New York. Watchtower created
and maintains an extensive administrative network for its 109 branch offices,
with advanced computing capability built on a strong Compaq platform. In
2000 alone, Watchtower either added or upgraded nearly 50 file servers (Proliant
1600 and ML370 models) and over 1400 desktop systems (Deskpro EP
    models)..

    knew I had it somewhere

I hope Microsoft sends them 10,000 copies of Windows ME. That'll set the WTS back 100 years!
