Lack of brotherly love at the DC

I sat at the DC today (yawn!) trying to keep myself entertained I looked around and was wondering to myself how many that were there today were lurkers, trolls & Fred Halls. What were the possibilities that some may have even read some of my comments. What fun! (OK, I know it doesn't take much for me, and it was better than sitting there taking notes)

It wasn't a total loss I did get to see some childhood friends that I grew up with that I hadn't seen for years.

As we were leaving out they were passing out the new Isaiah book. I was standing off to the side thinking we had 5300 people there today, I wondered how much they would take in donations for just the books. Naturally, they had the contribution boxes right there as they picked up the books. (how convenient, we wouldn't want our brothers and sisters to have to go out of their way to stuff money (donations) in the boxes).

But, as I was getting ready to leave I really got pissed off! Why?
My mother had just picked up 4 books. 3 were for other people that were not able to attend.
Then a brother loaded down with all kinds of book bags & lunch boxes asked the brother for 8 books all for baptized publishers. The one handing out the books looked at him and said, "8 books!".
The brother said, "yes, I need 8".
The one handing out the books said, "that is allot for one, maybe you should wait for tomorrow or maybe you can bring someone with you to request more (like he was trying to rip off the org. and was going to sell the books for profit Yeah, right!)
I looked at the brother as he then requested 4 books with the hope of getting the rest tomorrow. The one handing out the books said, "how about two" (what power he had to determine who got what, remember my mother had just picked up 4 books)
That poor brother all loaded down looked as if he had the wind knocked out of him. I touched him on the elbow in front of the (powerful man giving out the books) I said, "Here brother you can take one of my books I can get another one tomorrow".

Not meaning to toot my own horn, The question is who was the true Christian? the one giving out (I mean not giving out) the books or the border line apostate.

    If there are two categories,

    (1) JW's or (2) Apostate's with genuine love and concern for people of all faiths, I say "sign me up for the Apostate's.

What a sad thing, Even more sad, that brother really wanted those books!

Before someone gets their panties in a wad about my comments, I would like to clarify that I know not all JW's are like that, and I hope that one day they too will see the light.

perhaps the brother wanted to make sure that the ratio of attendance to books was met...example....there were 5,300 at last years d.c. convention so we will ship x amount...which should average about 2 per publisher...(there in the "power" you complained about)..if we let everyone take all they want ..there would clearly not be enough...chances are that all 8 or 4 of these books would not be read overnight...so lets give everyone a chance...........................hey but thats just the thought of a literature servant

Usually, the Society sends out PLENTY of books to a convention, so many, in fact, that each congregation normally gets a box of books (60 in a box) to take home with them. If there are 80 congregations at a convention, that means that there were nearly 5000 books left over.

It really TICKS ME OFF that they won't let the poor guy have 8 dang books, but they'll have plenty left over at the end. One of the few things about conventions that annoys me more is those guys standing in the halls with those "PLEASE KEEP MOVING" signs when they're so congested that nobody can move!

Maybe the attendant that was handing out books was really doin' the guy a favor by not giving him those books. It's not exactly a good read...

nyt: as one fellow lit servant to another, Im sure youre aware that not every one of the 5300 attendees went up to get there copy of the book personally. normally one family member waits in line to get enough for their family or car group or what have you. now 8 does sound like a lot, maybe some of the eight were not actually in attendance, if they were, im sure the brother asking for the 8 wouldve made that clear. (it isnt clear from noidea's account whether he did.) its tough, i remember, you dont want to make it look like you are outright accusing your brother of deception, but you want to gently remind them of the limited quantity. arguing the man down from 8 to 2 seems over the top. i dont recall an attendant so much as batting an eye at requests for 4 or 5 books.

I've been to conventions where the attendants are especially stingy. Last year, I asked for 2 books (myself and my mother, who WAS at the assembly) and I was interrogated!

    Talk about a CHEAPSKATE!

    nytelecom1,

I can understand that they wanted to make sure that everyone had a book. The power play showed when he had just given my mother 4 books when she clearly stated that 3 of them were for some that had not attended.
It wasn't a matter of the brother just wanting 8 books he clearly stated that he was picking up for 8 baptized publishers. If it was a matter of him wanting to be a bookhog he could have requested 16 books (2 per publisher). As I had mentioned he had several bookbags and lunch coolers, it was plain to see that he was not just getting them for himself. I feel that the brother giving out the books was clearly out of line when he requested he bring someone back with him in order to get more books. If it was a child requesting the books I could see it but this was a middle aged brother.

    NotBlind,

LOL! Even more annoying is when they go through the halls with the signs and there is hardly anyone out there.

    Moxy,
The brother did mention that he was picking up for 8 other publishers. The icing on the cake is when they released the brochure my husband requested 10 and they just handed them over.

I think it all boils down to which individual is doing the book handing out. These jobs are great for the egostistical and the elder and MS wannabees. A little bit of power goes straight to their head. I have known quite a few elder types like that including one very "Captain Mainwaring" type jumped up little nobody.

The Brits (and Aussies maybe) will know Captain Mainwaring of "Dad's Army" (pronounced man-ner-ing)

i think the end to this solution would be to track down the brother and ask him what the deal was...forget the part of being imperfect humans.....track his ass down so he can be df'd for not showing brotherly love....after all this brother failed to show the one sign that would identify jesus true follwers....i can also be guilty of refusing literature to some who i thought were taking just to take...hey it's a judgment call...life goes on...

    nytlecom1,

You hit the nail on the head, a judgement call, just like everything else. Thanks for clearing things up!
bad attitude and judgement, life of a jw goes on.
