I seem to remember that when there was a specific disaster, we were told we could put our donation in the World wide work box with a note attached stating it was for a particular cause (e.g. hurricane relief work in a specific incident ) Am I right in thinking that the donations are collected out of the box and banked? Do the notes get sent seperately to the branch offices? and if so how are the two matched up?

I know we can all imagine what might happen, but does anyone know what really happens, having dealt with this procedure ?

It has been playing on my mind lately,

Thanks in advance, Shirley. ( MP)

hmmm...that's interesting. I don't remember that ever being announced at the KH I went to. There was one contribution box at the back where the books were sold and all I can remember is knowing it would go to the WTS.

I live in FL and they did do that after Hurricane Andrew and I know they did it in the southern states to help out. Of course the monies collected go only to JWs and KH re-building projects, etc.

The Kingdom Hall buildings are a downline part of the Watch Tower Publishing Corporation and are business related, so gifts used to rebuild business buildings aren't really used for disaster relief on a human level. Does anybody know of any individual people receiving disaster gifts from the world wide money fund of Watch Tower Publishing Corporation?

Thanks for your replies so far. In the KH I used to attend there were three contribution boxes, one for the KH, one for the 'World Wide Work' and later ,one for cell-saver machines. All money for mags, books donations from the general public (not often ), disasters etc went into the WWW box.The KH box was for the mortgage and upkeep of the KH, I know they were going into the red on that account when I left ! But who knows what happened to particular donations in the WWW box? Or does my memory play tricks ?

I can remember in the 70's, we were told to put our money in the WWW contribution box ? same as you were Shirley - and it would get to the brothers and sisters for aid.

(Any chance you are from East Texas?)

I remember from another thread that the brothers whose houses were rebuilt by jw's were billed for the work to be repaid after the insurance paid up. The money from the donations will be sent to the local area to pay for the reconstruction materials, this will be repaid after the jws house insurance pays out, what happens to the money after that?

When I was account servant? checks for the www were sent directly to the society. Cash for the www was deposited into the congregation account, and at the end of the month the congregation would write a check to the society for the total amount of cash contributions for the www. Same thing for the kingdom hall building fund?. All money for the society was in one check. A form was sent with the check detailing how the money was to be allocated.
