" We have ended our practice of disfellowshipping members who take a blood transfusion.

But, any member that does take a blood transfusion automatically revokes his membership.

It has the same effect. With the semantic change we are simply stating more accurately that a person who rejects our tenets chooses to leave. The Watchtower public relations department."

In other words,no one can accuse us of kicking out a member for taking a blood transfusion. They have kicked themselves out.

In spite of all the "legalese" promising freedom of conscience regarding blood, voting and so forth, the fact remains that victims of the Watchtower are treated no differently than before.

They will be shunned if they take blood ,vote,or accept public office.

What I don't understand about this change is why a person who willfully engages in porneia, or commits a gross act of theft or fraud, or who takes up smoking is not DA'ing himself but will be subject to a judicial committee. What makes military service or blood transfusions any different? Scripturally speaking.

I know that a 1961 Watchtower QFR states directly that persons who have blood transfusions are to be DF'd -- it is the congregation's responsibility to DF them. Now it is no longer the cong's responsibility?

When the same outcome results from the same action, it doesn't matter what its called, its THE SAME THING!

THey only say that to make it sound better to worldlies. A person is shunned and out of the org if they take/give blood. Bottom line.

They just try to sugar coat it to make it sound less offensive, and probably to avoid lawsuits

My understanding is this from a CO. There is still a judicial meeting held if one accepts a forbidden blood substance. A decision is reached that either the person did or did not do something which he would therefore dissasociate oneself and if so an announcement is made. In some cases there may be some leniency if the person is sorry he did the deed.

The whole reason for the change to DA'ing instead of DF'ing is because of legal reasons, plain and simple. It was the same reason for vaccinations years ago. They dont want to be drawn into the affair legally.
