  Ok, UnD. Let's see what we have to work with here.

  The men of Sodom. I see the words used: "apparently," "the scriptures indicate," "Jesus' words indicate..." The relevant Bible verses are vague and difficult to make perfect sense of, so no wonder the Society has had difficulty nailing down an exact answer to the question of whether the men of Sodom will be resurrected. And like this issue, one way or the other, is a faith-determining matter or will change the outcome of Armageddon.

  The 20th century sentence was certainly a goofup, and a funny one at that since we are now knocking on the door of 2003. Yep, not unlike how the apostles probably had a good chuckle when they remembered how they were asking Jesus in 33CE if the kingdom was going to manifest itself at that time. (Of course, the New Testament author for some reason left that embarrassment in his story, whereas the WT clearly tried to make it go away.)

  In the Truth book, by 1981 it would have been silly to to keep the "15 years" portion of the quote. But otherwise it was still a relevant quote. And in many places the world was indeed very dangerous to live in during the mid-1970s. Also, how silly to publish a book in 1981 that points to possible hunger problems in 1975. Would you expect them to leave such language in the text?

  If you read the WT's explanations for Heb 1:6, you would see why "worship" is entirely acceptable, but the WT happens to prefer "obeisence." Most people associated the English word "worship" to mean absolute dedication and reverence towards an ultimate authority, and in Greek, the word simply does not carry that connotation.

  I agree with the WT that numerous children are not dying every year. I disagree with AJWRB's speculation that 'thousands' die from the blood policy. Other than some number games I don't see the evidence for it. The quote that thousands of youths have died in the past for putting God first is written sloppily, but does not necessarily mean that today the same number of thousands are also dying for refusing blood transfusions. It simply means that today some youths are following the example of those thousands of yesteryear. If thousands of children have died then where are all of these stories? Why do only a handful exist at the Watchtower Memorial website?

  There are certain things the WT has written that are competely untrue or contain misleading language. Text found in the Creation book, historical references to the pre-1927 Bible Students' beliefs, the defense of the 607BCE date -- these things are undeniably huge WT falsities. Rewrites of books which basically make changes to rather insignificant teachings or simple updates to other peoples' remarks hardly constitutes disingenuous behavior.

  Let's see you go back 15/20 years and maintain that the remarks you said back then is still pefectly true and relevant today.

  Somewhere down in the bowels of Bethel, there's a guy named Winston Smith, and whenever something needs to be revised, he re-writes it and chucks the old stuff right down the memory hole that's next to his desk. The only thing he hasn't perfected yet is destroying all the old copies so that no record of the former statements are left. Once he gets that part under control, they'll take down the sign on the building that says "Watchtower" and put up one that says "Ministry of Truth"...

  Reading through this thread brought a question to mind. Why, after having left the WT, do we expend so much of our lives researching WT teachings? From the post that I have read it seems that many, like myself, have been away from the WT for many, many years. At what point do we get beyond the WT? At what point do we allow ourselves to not be consumed with WT issues?

  Once we have seen that we do not agree with WT teachings and policy, once we have decided that the WT is a cult and once we have come to terms that this organization is not for us- why do we continue to look for more dirt?

  After having left the org I delved into all sorts of religions and teachings. It became clear to me that they all have "dirt" and all have re-written their stand on issues and certain parts of thier history. Clearly I could dig and dig and find troubling things about all organized religion- but short of writing a book or a thesis for publication- why would I want to keep on and keep on?

  As has been brought out in relation to post about silent lambs and BB- "enough is enough". If I dared to continually raise issues of things written that were not 100% true or at the least were misleading some members of the board here would pounce on the post and remind me that silent lambs is doing something and Mr Bowen is imperfect- he has a lot of responsibility- mistakes will and have been made- he did apologize for a "misunderstanding"- IMHO it seems to be a "one way street". However, back to point-

  How many years have you guys been away from the WT and do you believe that one day you will get beyond the WT expereince and no longer feel the need to dig dirt on the WT?

  I ask this question out of sincerity- this is not sarcasm- I really want to know how ex-jws feel in this regard.

  As for my part I will say that once I felt comfortable with my decision to stay away from the WT and that I know longer held to their beliefs and policies I no longer felt the need to dig and dig to find more and more wrong with the WT.
