CO Visit: ANAL RETENTIVE - Every Human Desire is SUSPECT!

Thinking back over the years about the reduced amount of fun JWs have, a talk by a CO brings home the point about how ‘Anal Retentive’ the Watchtower was and is still today:

The CO stood on the platform, poised to give his presentation on the topic, Every Human Desire is Suspect. He opened by saying that because we are sinners, fallen from perfection, and continuing to degrade in sin, sickness and disease since the time of Adam, that we cannot trust any aspect of our human existence. He used an old line about a teenage JW asking their parent to trust them – and how the JW dad says he cannot trust his own teen child because he cannot even trust himself – that is – with respect to any human desire.

Sex: He went on to list a long diatribe of distrusting and suspecting every human desire as potential for sin, such as making money, buying even needed material items as clothing, eating, drinking, vacation and other free time, etc. - the litany of items was absolutely incredible – for everything known in life was placed at the altar of the Watchtower Code of Pharisaical Regulations. I mean, even sleep was mentioned – such that I wondered if maybe even my dreams could be brought into question. Then, the big one – SEX ...

He stated that each and every sexual "impulse or feeling" is suspect because of all aspects of human existence, Satan the Devil plays on our sexual desires in an attempt to turn us from Jehovah. No sexual thought or act was excluded, for even when having sexual expression between husband and wife, one needs to be careful that it stays in its proper place. I recall that this was said during the time that the Society had prohibited oral sex even for married couples (later they kind of repealed this – probably some married GB man got it on with his wife, and decided to change the rules – just kidding, but they must have had difficulty in enforcing this silly ruling.)

Think about it for a minute: Sex is made out to be suspect and sinful in every way, even to be distrusted among married people. No wonder JWs live in constant guilt, and no wonder they have so many problems with sex. The JWs are never taught to see sex as something positive, something to be cherished, something to enjoy, even waking up feeling very sexual in the morning is something to appreciate. Why can they not talk about all the positive aspects of sex, and then leave the ‘evil sinful’ side to be dealt with mercifully and kindly when and if a JW makes a serious mistake ... why make sex always a suspicious federal case? Because ...

... the Watchtower Society and its Governing Body are simply Anal Retentive – afraid to be human – and take normal pleasure in a positive way in this life – now. No wonder so many JWs are so uncomfortable about sex, and other good things in life – the Watchtower is trying to beat humanity out of people, and make this life a curse, instead of the blessing is could and should be.

Amazing - another interesting post. The CO talk you refer to sounds familiar. Whatever happened to being balanced? I especially disliked the father's comments to the son - how can I trust you when I cannot trust myself? Very sick!

Perhaps the someone in the writing dept. spent the weekend studying the writings of Sigmund Freud? LOL

It also reminded me of an Andrew McCarthy movie called Heaven Help Us. About going to Catholic school in the early 60's. The priests comments before the school sponsored co-ed dance regarding the evils of sex, burning in hell etc., ended with "Have a nice time", was hilarious - also sad!

It is so sad that people allow some old farts to live their lives also. Life is to short to worry about what we should or shouldn't have done. We must not regret what we have done in the past or worry about the furture but live in the present.

Preston, why don't you adhere to the loving provisions of the Governing body?

How can I trust the governing body when I can't even trust myself?

    Amazing,

    Good post brother.

I think some things in life are just so simple. When you are hungry you eat. When you are thirsty you drink. When you are sleepy you sleep. When you are horny you have sex, with yourself or with someone else. So, why do they make all this stuff out to be evil and fill you full of guilt for no apparent reason?

I guess it is just their way.

    Amazing,

: Satan the Devil plays on our sexual desires in an attempt to turn us from Jehovah.

One has to wonder exactly how Satan does that. Does he fondle us when he wants to "turn us from Jehovah?" Does he put sexual thoughts in our brains? If so, how does he do it?

Sorry to be a bit off topic, but I've always wondered about the significance of Satan being "cast down to the Earth" in 1914 and knowing that he only has a "short time left." Does Satan have more power now that he is CLOSER to humans? Does distance from victims in the demon world make a difference? Closer = they can mess you up more. Farther = they can't mess you up as much as they could of they were "closer." If this "casting down to Earth" stuff is to make any sense then it is logical that God should have sent Satan to the farthest galaxy in the farthest Universe. But God put Satan even closer to us and thus gave him more power over us.

BibleGod is a sadist. There can be no other explanation.

Preston: Excellent reversal of words, "How can I trust the governing body when I can't even trust myself?" I wish I would have thought of that line while I was still a JW ... it wuld have turned some heads.

Farlel: Your mix humor and seriousness is brilliant. You got me to thinking about this Devil business. If we are saved by grace alone, then what is the point of making our lives miserable with the Devil around ... and if we are saved by some amount of 'works' ... then we don't stand a snowball's chance in hell of fighting the Devil ... and if the Bible is all figurative and allegorical ... then the whole concept of God is someone's idea of a cruel joke.

Larc: It all boils down to control ... if the Society (or any control-freak institution) can makes us feel deficient, then they can sell their elixer of so-called spiritual refreshment and fulfillment ... yet, what they sell is not real or tangible requiring meaningful labor, such as when a contractor and crew build us a house ... no, the Society sells us 'invisible cloths' and makes us think we look great, when in fact they make us look like fools.

Penwell: Good point about allowing the GB to live the JWs lives for them ... I once recall a close JW friend say that he does not have time to devote to the serious spiritual questions in life, and likes it that the Governing Body does his thinking for him.

Makina1: The terms "Balance" and "Bible Trained Conscience" were coined when Ray Franz was on the Governing Body, and Ed Dunlap was in the Writing Dept. I recall after they were forced to leave Bethel, that talks at District Conventins changed all this, such as when Angelo Manera stated, "Brothers, how can you expect to live balanced and normal lives when these are not normal times." circa 1985.

Thank you for posting that, Amazing. I especially enjoyed, "the Watchtower is trying to... make this life a curse..."

When THIS life is curse, how much more strongly will the congregation yearn for and work for the promised NEXT life, in Paradise? Of course, the same anal-retentive Princes will be in charge there to. Nothing would change. Paradise would become a curse.

So then who created the orgasm?

    What a gift!

Gifts should be appreciated not condemned.

Only an "anti" could turn something indescribably beautiful into something opposite, like what they do to the concept of God.
