Last week at the meeting, the PO, who has very close connections to Bethel, said that he never thought he would see the day that Bethelites were being sent home.
He said that the biggest two reasons he thought Bethel were cutting back, was automation and a massive decline in contributions.
Looks like you're right Metatron about the contribution aspect being their Achilles heel.

Contributions have to be down. To get a garunteed price, even if extremely low is better for business than asking people to 'give fromt he heart' and they know it.
They get most of their $$$ from industrialized nations, and wouldn't you know that they are slipping (like many other religions) in these areas.
The Brooklyn speaker at the convention stated a 2 interesting things worth noting
- That the 'reason' for the decrease in workers is because of the 'automation'
- There is the need for over 40,000 qualified men in the organization (i'm going to start another thread about this now that I remember it).
They are dropping in more ways than one. The last CO visit most congregations got in the US was supplied with a video that basically put on the pressure to donate more.
Down and Down it goes.
An elder's son that was pioneering, no skills, just left for Bethel. He was there for 3 months on temporary assignment and then they called him for full time.
It could be they are getting rid of couple that have been there for a while and getting fresh meat, those with zeal and ready to give their life to the organization, until they burn out and see what Bethel is truly all about.
How about selling another building in Brooklyn for a quater billion dollar and pay the bills for 2 years.

That was one of the BIG THINGS that attracted us to the org. And that was voluntary contributions. Now that has all changed. They are no different than those whom they scorn.

Remember the time when the talks at the conventions went on and on about how the catholic Church couldn't get men to join the priesthood and many, many Catholic churches were under-staffede? remember that?
