You Get What You Pay For

I used to be in charge of arranging public speakers in our congregation and remember making fun of the clergy because many of them 'bought' their sermons that they gave in Church. I now believe that was a 'myth' for the most part.

However, it didn't occur to me that JW's were no different! They got their sermons 'free' from NY. And you had better read them 'word for word' if you didn't want to be guilty of 'independent thinking!

Why heck, my 10 year old daughter could have given the talks if she was a good reader! No need to study, or understand Scripture, or be a mature Christian, just be a good reader! Why you could even give talks before thousands at assemblies, because someone else wrote everything you had to say!

Well, you do get what you pay for. Would you rather have the 'freebie' or the sermon that someone payed for?

You know they can't take the risk of some brother getting up there and actually having an original thought in his head! A little leaven, you know.....

I remember a brother who studied with my sister and me telling us he had to cut the study short to go "work" on his talk. Actually what he meant was that he had to memorize it so he wouldn't have to keep reading the notes. They have to make it look like you were NEVER reading it off a pre-written piece of paper.
