Putin Pressed Over Jehovah's Witnesses Combined Reports

A leading human rights organization has appealed to President Vladimir Putin over a court's decision to ban the activities of Jehovah's Witnesses in Moscow, calling it a serious failure of the judicial system that could increase harassment of believers, Mosnews.com reported.

The International Helsinki Federation for Human Rights urged Putin in an open letter to meet his "international obligations" and set the record straight by addressing the issue publicly.

The ban came into force on June 16, when the Moscow City Court upheld a district court decision prohibiting Jehovah's Witnesses from engaging in religious activity under a provision that allows courts to ban religious groups that are considered to incite hatred or intolerant behavior.

Jehovah's Witnesses spokesman Christian Presber said at the time that the ruling would prevent the group from renting premises for worship, holding bank accounts, or otherwise supporting their religious activities.

There are about 10,000 Jehovah's Witnesses in Moscow and 133,000 nationwide, according to the group.

ยป Theologically,Jehovah's Witnesses are a cult of Christianity. The oppressive organization does not represent historical, Biblical Christianity in any way. Sociologically, it is a destructive cult whose false teachings frequently result in spiritual and psychological abuse, as well as needless deaths.

Well, since they're good at going door to door and have to get in at least 10 hours per month anyway, perhaps the Tower could turn this to their advantage. Avon's not illegal in Russia, is it?

I am sad - seriously. All the JWs will now be saying "See we are persecuted -true Christians are persecuted -we are right and we are very deep in the last days" -- all this does is perpetuate the myth - I would rather governments just leave them alone

the wt should put the face of lenin on one of their new brochures. and write a nice article about him, as a leader in freedom of the russian ppl. or plan b. all the russian jw's should go to were the need is greatest, a pilgrimage to iraq. i don't think they are banned there yet. i think all jw's should have to go to the islamic world for a one year .and preach the good news in 10 years you would not have no more jw's. problem solved. john

stillajwexelder: that's exactly my point too - you are right; this is what they want - they want this kind of persecution, so they can say that they are the "right" religion. They are known to create problems, which has very little to do with scripture to begin with. One of the reasons why blood was prohibited was not because of scripture, but they needed to be "persecuted" so they can believe this myth.
